AirBox Mod Whine

Thought I'd post a video of the Airbox mod since there aren't to many good ones on YouTube. 2nd gear. Pretty loud. I like it. Highly recommend.

Amything else done besides the airbox mod? Sounds pretty good, I need to do something like this, since the blower sound is non existant on my car. WTH is the airbox mod anyways, a K&N in the stock box?

Some people hack the **** out of the box, remove the lid, and or clamp on a high flow filter.

Here's my modified airbox:

My modfied airbox with K&N E-0777 filter out flowed my Injen intake by nearly 2 lbs/min.

Is it as loud as a shiny metal pipe intake?? No, but it flows just as well.

It's not really a "free" mod.

You need to purchase a high flow filter.

So, not bad for a $30-$50 mod

Sounds good, I tried to do the airbox mod but I couldn't get the filter to clamp on so I'm just running the stock one now

Because the stock filters are big wads of paper. K&N drop in without any cutting will yield sound as well.

The K&N drop in, meaning it requires no modification to install, is a high flow filter.

I may just try the filter alone first. Yep ricer status, doing it strictly for the blower whine

Hmmm....

I could here my blower when I was stock just fine.

I have a graph somewhere around in my images of the gain just the K&N E-0777 filter provides. I believe it was 4 peak whp over stock.

This is not just a sound mod.

I can't believe how this mod still seems new to everyone....

This was one of the first mods done to these cars back in the day.

I hope you are running something different than the K&N E-0777 filter if you dont have the bottom of your airbox installed....

The K&N E-0777 simply presses into the airbox and is held in with the bottom lid (just like stock).

This.

I wonder if that dyno is from a 100% untouched and untuned car. I just never considered it before since I didn't think it did much power and sound wise. I have seen where a lot of MAF cars have lost some power by addining a K&N drop in without tuning due to the increased airflow

That was a stock car untouched.

I remember when they performed that dyno.

The K&N drop in was my first mod (2 days after I purchased my car), and I felt an immediate bump in power (nothing crazy though), and more whine.

The stock intake on the SS/SC is not restrictive like many little kiddies think. The addition of a high flow filter makes it even better.

I've tested many different intakes, and had my best results with current setup.

Nope, not at all. GM did their homework when they designed air intake sytems on the LSJ cars. That's why I have been running the stock tubing with an AC Delco paper filter since day one. I have a $10 off coupon for Advance Auto, so I might just try a K&N

I took the bottom of the airbox off and installed a specter filter from Orileys. Defiantly more whine! Would hacking more of the box off make it even louder?

Glad to hear your car is running strong after using my airbox mod as an example
