I'll have to look into those sites. I'm on VWVortex

I am amazed at how much the GTI hatches weigh. Its ridiculous.

For a hatch... a curb weight of 3100lbs is a lot.

And yeah... after watching GTI videos the last couple days, I am sadly a little bit disappointed, I think it is the weight that kills them. But oh well... they are still very nice cars.

yea if the DSG had a real manual function, i wouldn't mind driving one. it shifts alot nicer/smoother than BMW's SMG transmission. but you can hold gears in BMW's manual mode to the rev limiter, DSG will upshift instead of hitting it. still a fun ride, but when it comes down to it, its just an amazing auto tranny.

Also a good peak at the DSG's shifts:

Auto's are better for drag racing.

Coming from about 7 years into the VW/Audi Scene, Its not bad to see another Vw guy interested in Gm's finest.

Clean dub!

I haven't gone to the drag strip yet.. maybe soon. 15's seem high. I've heard of some people getting about mid 14's bone stock.

What kind of Audi or VW did you have before your GM?

Sounds about right. 200ish hp @ 3100lbs should be 14's material.

Good stuff.

I picked up a 94 Jetta back in December... nothing special though.

I'll probably be picking up the wife a White MKV GTI next year.
