a watermark shouldn't be red like that...it distracts from the actual image.
i don't look at the whole of any of those images my eye is drawn straight to the red becuase it obviously not suppose to be there and stands out like a sore thumb.

Hey, try it man. I copied the image from somebody else so its ok. I am just trying to see what I can learn. Different views might be possible but to get the heart shape shadow, the light has to be infront of you coming down on the ring.
very far from the truth... in these images it stands out because of the white.. but I cant change it just because of an image.. so well see..
So I bought a Rebel XS this morning... beautiful camera... takes absolutely amazing pictures, but my GF loves doing macro stuff and I really can't afford a macro lens, nor do we want to haul around multiple lenses and it's not exactly the best camera to take on a trip and not have it be annoying to carry around.
So we returned it and picked up the SX10 IS, which is still fairly large, but the lens does a much larger range, so no need for additional lenses. I'm a little disappointed now because there is a noticeable difference in the quality of the pictures. Am I crazy, or should this be expected between those two cameras? I'm just wondering if I should get the XS and just a cheap, slim point and shoot for her to play with and for us to take on trips and such.
I guess my biggest concern is that it's only $200 cheaper, still has the bulk of the XS, but without as much functionality and from my amateur opinion, not as good quality. Are my concerns valid, or will I be happy with the SX10 IS once I get better at photography?
Opinions and advice are very welcomed.

The XS is much more versatile for the majority of the pictures you want to take. Plus you do have the ability to switch lens and use different ones if you want. Which you may find out if you really get into this that you want different lenses.....With the XS you have room to grow, the SX110IS leaves you kinda stuck right there and no room to grow.

First of all, the sensors are COMPLETELY different. Point and shoot = CCD sensor (P&S formatted), DSLR (XS) = CMOS sensor (SLR formatted). The different in image quality is very noticeable, so you are correct. Just get here a $150-200 point and shoot (nikon or canon are good), and go back and get your XS. It's a great starter camera!
image one needs some adjustment ... possibly coulda been better with a cpl to regain the sky a quick adjustment in photoshop reveals much more color detail is possible while maintaining some of the foggy look and the white balance appears to be wrong 2 and 3 are nice
