For all the people who dont know about CCD and CMOS, since the terms are used alot in this thread, here is an interesting read.

I love the photography I've seen in this thread. You guys are great at what you do. I'm probably lookin to get a new camera.. Nikon D90. Found the body on SonicCamera's site for 530 bucks.. incredible. I'm actually in a photo journalism class at the moment, seems like I know the most out of anyone in there.

Do not buy from soniccameras they are a faux site and they will just rip you off....the cheapest your going to find the D90 is 889 plus free shipping at BH....if you find it cheaper anywhere else be VERY weary of the site....Nikon is pretty strict with their pricing.

If i were you i would get the D90 over the D200 the tech on the D90 is wayyy more advanced. ISO performance and Image quality are better on the D90 than on the D200.

A camera doesn't make the picture, the photographer does.

Yeah I've wanted a D90 since before it came out. Soon I hope.. by April at the latest.. HOPEFULLY.

Indeed that is the key. I just feel I can expand my photography talents with an actual SLR that lets me take the lens off. The Panasonic Lumix FZ50 is an SLR but I can't replace the lens.. and its limited to what it can do.

An SLR is a camera you can interchange lenses, if you can't change them then it's just an advanced point and shoot.

Of course the D40 sucks lol but you can still get good images with it. You can get amazing images out of a pro camera though

Or maybe call it a fixed-lens reflex.

Yeah it can go either way. Someone who knows composition and lighting can get some pretty good pics with the very cheapest rudimentary crappy cameras. And I've known a few guys who trade up to the very latest $5000 pro camera every year but they still can't shoot their way out of a box.

Then it would be a FLR. Since I've never seen that referred to as a FLR, I'll call it what everyone else does: an advanced point and shoot.

Trust me, I've seen it too. It just shows that money doesn't buy talent.

That's because they don't learn the principles of photography and the main lessons. ****, I did 50% shooting and 50% reading my first year of photography.

lol if you don't read, experimenting is okay. Though, learning from others is even better!
