The ultimate appearance mod update
Here are the pictures that Nick took today... keep in mind that these were taken in the paint booth and the cut and polish won't be done until tomorrow. I will check in tomorrow and try to get better pics, but I have a feeling that the true pics will be taken on Saturday....

And here is your last update for a while... This is Coby on Saturday. Basically he is about 80% done (rough cut and polish only). He is back in the shop for now for the remaining touch ups. Right now I am thinking it will be about 3 more weeks (approximately) before he comes home. In the mean time there will be no more updates (as there won't be anything very noticeable to see until he is completely finished)

Thanks.. I think..
Actually because of the rough cut and polish and poor picture quality, I still can't get the pearl effect to show up properly, but hopefully everyone gets the picture...
For the basecoat we created our own color taking the original SRTM and taking out the purple and adding a little black to the paint. The new color is being named (appropriately enough) "Coby Red". You can see the ghosting effect on the sides and the back... shadows pretty much killed the one on the back, but when the light hits it directly it glows just like the ones on the side....
There are quite a few touch ups and other areas that need to be addressed... but then again the car was in the paint booth on Tuesday and put together Friday night so I can't complain. Like I said, I am looking at about 3 weeks +/- 1 week until Coby comes home. I told Nick to take his time so I am going to do my best not to bother him until the car is ready.
I will post when he is done... perhaps I will even enter him in the FCOTM next month (so long as I can win over the tail haters
)
Yes, we changed the basecoat and added 6 layers of pearl... unfortunately I can't get the pearl effect to show up with my camera.... and if I try to take a picture right on top of it, there is so much pearl that it glares

I actually went and added chip guard to the lower front and rocker panels.... This baby is going in the garage when he gets home.... right now I am actually looking for a fully enclosed car hauler that will transport it back home. Anyone in salt lake have one?
looks great man, but is this car your daily? b/c your gonna have to live with rock chips. they make that **** that you can wrap your bumper ina nd protect it like an ipod. maybe look into that since you dropped like 3 grand into a paintjob
Thanks.... I appreciate the support. I actually bought a 95 Miata M-edition, so Coby is going to be a garage car and the Miata will be a daily driver (love that car!)... I am probably not going to do the 3-M. I have a friend that put it on his speed 3 and the dirt actually tends to sit where the edges are (and it looks like it is slightly peeling). I am pretty sure that I am the only one who likes the tails.. oh well, at least it keeps me unique...
Yeah, the color matching is going to be a bitch... I am actually going to add a supplement to my insurance (if they let me) for customized paint. I have already been warned that if anything happens to the paint that I am looking at a complete panel blend ($$$). Hence, I also put 6 coats of HKS clear on it as well (should take care of minor surface scratches) and I flexed the paint. Pretty much the only thing I didn't do was bullet proof it... but I did think about it...
Oh, and as for the trunk lock, I simply put a cover on it. I have already killed the battery on my car a few times so I can't get rid of it completely. It still needs a little work, but until I find a lock cover that actually fits, this will have to do. If anyone finds a set for the cobalt let me know... what I am using now is the panel clip mod...

just going to put this out there i love the color and the tails look really freakin sweet dont change a thing it looks great and if you get it back in time run for COTM you would have a really good chance
first off, the paint itself look absolutely top notch. i like the color on top of that. however, i think the ss things painted on look terrible. not quality wise, they just dont flow, at all. the taillights also look incredibly tacky. just my opinion, but good choice on the color, very cool.
