The ultimate appearance mod update
first off, the paint itself look absolutely top notch. i like the color on top of that. however, i think the ss things painted on look terrible. not quality wise, they just dont flow, at all. the taillights also look incredibly tacky. just my opinion, but good choice on the color, very cool.
change your filter... if you got a tune, get one of the k and n maxflow filters... youll see a completely different attitude on the car, cause instead of the chrome piece... you have another filter element... so air goes directly straight up the pipe.

any pic updates?
i agree with hatrickstu.
you should also get them to paint your grills black. i did that to mine at the paint shop and it came out amazing. maybe tint the tail lights, since im guessing you mostly like them bc they are the led type
Holy crap... was thinking the same thing... Ok here is your update...
So the car has under construction since September of 09... yes almost 1 yr...
What has happened is this:
The original estimate was 3 months and 3K. I got the car in December and found a bunch of little issues in the paint - which basically added up to one big issue overall. At this point my estimate had also been blown by another 1.5K (go figure). So the car went back... and was painted again... So then I check in on the car and find that they had cut my quater panel glass seal. Also the front windshield seam that covers the rain groove is actually part of the glass...same with the rear glass. Basically ended up replacing glass... They also braised my rear tails, put a scratch on my front light, and somehow grooved my passenger interior door panel. Yeah, I know - ouch... So there went more time and another 1.5K. But it gets better... When they went to go put back on the bumpers - they popped the paint - again. So they had to take them off and re-paint again. In the mean time I took the car around the corner to a performance shop and had a few more mods done... So right now the bumpers are back at the body shop, the rest or the car is at a performance shop, I have spent approx 6K, the car has been painted twice (in some places 3 times) and the bumpers 4 times. Good thing I am patient. The paint job is actually really good - or at least will be good once I get it put back together. so to summarize:
Time frame - 10 months
Number of times painted - 2-3 (bumpers = 4)
Cost - 6K
New quater panel and windshield, new tails, new rubber rain seals
Performance mods (new):
Rotated tranny mounts
K&N intake
Peddars coilovers
Rear sway bar
snow performance meth kit
catch can
hahn intercooler
KO4+ upgrade
New yellow top battery
Things left to do:
put bumpers back on - cut and rub
tune
put in new passenger interior door panel
new tint job
register the damn car once I can get a safety inspection
take car of all the chevy recalls that I got while the car was down
Was it worth it? Well, that depends on who you ask.... In the end it will be worth it - I was fortunate to be able to put the car down for all this time and get everything out of the way. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone that actually wants to drive their car anytime soon, but at the same time it is an investment that I made in a car I will keep forever and it is a once in a lifetime event so I guess it has/ will be worth it for me...
Time frame until car is done - 2 weeks and counting...
Hey maybe I will enter the COTM next month?

Well I found some pictures of Coby on JDP Motorsports so that you guys can see what he looks like right now... Basically, with the bumpers at the body shop and coby at the performance shop he is going to be a little bit longer before he is back together.
This photo album chronicles the coilover install... since then we put on the new intercooler and meth kit..... I will try to get more pics tomorrow...

Definitely a nice looking car and nice to see a clean, unique build. I would have gone a little different with the size and ghosting of the "SS," but it still looks great. You should be proud. It's a respectable build...
Based on the pics, they looked really sloppy. Why did they not cover the wheels with masking paper or something? I would have been shitting bricks if I saw all the grime on my wheels! I don't like how they just left everything lying around to collect dust. Also, why did YOU have to pay to get it painted the 2nd time? Was it not their fault that there were flaws?
Not to be a hater but your Tristage factory paint job looks way deeper and more vibrant. Your new color looks like mud. (Your doors jambs, underhood and undertrunk don't match outside color probably weren't painted.) Just my opinion not bashing just trying to educate others.
I LoL'd at this... Polishing with the windows open.

K... let me chime in a little...
Yep, the ss are ghosted in.. there are two on sides and one large one on the back - depending on how the light hits it they actually pop out in a 3-d effect... pretty sweet in person but a bitch to photograph...
Much like the actual color of the car... basically what I did for the color is take the sport red tint coat and remove the burgandy/wine color and darken it up with a little black - it is actually a cross between SRTC and torch red. Then we put 6 layers of pearl on it. Once again depending on the way in which the light hits it the color shifts... everything from a brown-like red to a candy apple - it just depends on how the pearl reflects the light. (Low lighting conditions inside the building means you get zero reflection...if you take a SRTC inside you get the same dull effect) I didn't do the door jabs or under the hood - as anyone who has painted their car can probably tell you; not only is it a pita (have to tear out more of the car), but it isn't necessarily worth it. There is also a good chance that even when the car is finished I won't be able to get good pictures of the paint simply due to the pearl reflection - it just doesn't photograph...
Yeah, the rubbing compound everywhere is a pain. They didn't do a good job covering the car up during the cut and polish so it will take a while to clean it up. However, with that being said they could have covered everything and I would still be dealing with dust. Basically the electrostatics cause the car to pick up everything - it doesn't help that the dust was flying. Heck, even when my car sits in my garage I still have to dust it every other day (yep - California duster ftw!).
I never had to pay for a second paint job (or the 3rd or 4th on the bumpers)... they are sticking by their work - hence part of the reason it is taking so long to get everything done. Whenever something gets messed up - back it goes again. The cost increase is the result of increased cost of materials (was underestimated initially), glass, interior door panel, etc. The big thing here is the extension in the schedule that I have run into...
Oh and as for the tails... I have been defending those for well over a year now so I am pretty used to it... yeah they stick out - yeah no one likes them...eh, I have heard it all - until people see them in person. Then it is a different story. I will say that like them or not, they are a better performing and better quality product than the original stockers, hands down. So until I find something better I will keep them - and continue to defend them (I guess)... It is actually all good
I plan on visiting the car tomorrow so I hope to get some additional pics for everyone... Oh and right now the estimate is 2 weeks from tomorrow... but that will probably change again next week...
Oh - one last thing... As for the future plans for this car - since the paint is now show quality I am thinking about showing it next year. Of course there are a lot of people that want to see it race - after all it is set up for both auto cross (suspension mods) and drag (boost mods). I will probably miss most events this year since it is getting so late but I am keeping my options open in the future.

^^^ I stopped adding it up a long time ago... I think the performance mods and labor this time around are probably between $3-4K (not including the paint at all)... that is about average for my yearly upgrades... next year will probably be a clutch and new rubber (go figure)...
So here are some pics I took yesterday when I checked in... keep in mind he is still dirty and as I predicted the paint just won't photograph properly... enjoy:
New KO4+ turbo by Autowerks:

And coby in the process of dropping the old turbo (ran into a bolt that is sitting at about 400ft-lbs so this is taking longer then expected):

And the meth (waiting on a solenoid):

And the intercooler:

Hopefully the bolt won't hold us up too much...

Update
Well - not necessarily to resurrect an old thread - but I did promise to show you guys the finished product. Here are some final pictures of Coby that I took today:

Well I hope you guys like the final product. It took a year to get him to this point, but I think he turned out pretty well.

...but i also dislike your tail lights.. sorry man.
