05' Cobalt won't start HELP please *Resolved*

I have a Cobalt that all of a sudden won't start. If I turn the key on the only light that turns on in the instrument cluster is the amber security light (car w/ lock icon). No other lights turn on at all, and turning the key does nothing.

Battery is good / keyless entry works etc.

Car also has a Viper 5701 alarm and a XK06 bypass. Everything was working fine for months until now...

Tried: turn the key on and left it for 10+ mins. which is supposedly supposed to reset the Passlock 2 system... nothing still.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

-Brandon

I'm actually having the same problem right now. Was trying to hook-up my HPT to even try and fix this, and I cant even connect.

Damn. In your instrument cluster is the Amber lock light the ONLY light that turns on too?

Is your light on solid or does it blink?

Sounds like you could have a bad passlock sensor, especially if you tried the reset procedure and still get nothing. I just had to replace the sensor on my wife's Alero last month because the same thing happened.

Make sure that the starter will for the alarm isn't bad.
We had that problem with our 05 Monte. It ended up being that the trigger wire for the starter kill for the DEI remote start came loose.
We were going to have the car towed to the dealer. Then after about a hour of searching i found a wire that looked like it belonged on a wire tap.
So i connected it. Turned the key and it started right up.
Also the remote that worked again that hadn't for a few months.

Thanks for the responses guys, 06black, do you remember what the passlock sensor looks like? is it like a black box under the driver side foot-well on the right or up by the ignition?

Thanks again.

He must have a slightly different system, as far as I know, the GM Passlock 2 system does not have a "chip" in the keys. FWIW I did try my other key though.

Also, I think the GM cars that do have the "chip" on the key it will have a "+" on the key to identify it, mine don't.

Thanks for the reply though.

Everything will be at the ignition switch, and that picture is what you are looking for. However the XK06 is garbage on GM vehicles, I stopped using it completely because I had too many issues with it locking people out of the vehicle. It would learn the correct resistance initially but then for some reason send the wrong signal and cause headaches. I just went straight to the relay trick for bypassing passlock 2, hasn't failed me yet. My suggestion to you is to pull those wires from the XK module and reconnect any wires that had to be cut. Once you do this perform the 10 minute reset procedure and see if you can start the vehicle. During the reset process, the light should flash until the 10 minute mark, at which point it should come on solid, indicating that that passlock has been reset and you should be able to fire it up. Just keep an eye on the light while resetting it to see what it does.

Ok figured it out last night and now I feel dumb, lol. It was a fuse, of course the one I DIDN'T CHECK, lol.

It was fuse #16 in this pic that screwed me:

Thanks everyone for all your help though, I really appreciate it. I guess this is why they say start with the simple stuff first. Now I guess I just need to find out WHY the fuse popped. Probably my big feet hitting some wiring under there made something come loose over time.

Edit: BTW, anyone know what "BTSI" stands for?
