2.0 issue

hey peepz i have a 06 ss/sc with 15,000miles... from the day i bought the car it has never went over 180 degrees no matter what the temp is outside. im always and watching my coolant readings and seen its been going up to like 210-215 under normal driving. if i let the car idle it will hit 230 within 2 minutes no joke. The fans are kicking on at like 230. ive watched the boost and its not going over 10psi, and its running a little rough. So any ideas what it could be or should i dealer it or and i just worring to much??

This is one of those "you should bring it to the dealer ASAP" moments. Theres nothing we can easily help you with. Its probably something with the coolant system so it should be nicely warrantied.

There is nothing to worry about. THe fans do not come on our vehicles until it hits about 225-230. Under normal driving conditions, it is about 180-185, but when it is idling it will skyrocket becuase there is no airflow to the radiator. Your boost is suffering because it is so hot. The hotter it is, the less boost you have.

anything under 230 is considered "normal". when it went to 215 or so was it in stop and go traffic? because that's very normal. if it hits 230, once you start driving it should go down after a while. these engines run hot, there's most likely nothing to worry about. but like said you can take it to the dealer, but they'll tell you it's normal

if you want to drop the temp you can always drain the antifreeze out and replace with jsut water and water wetter. This will drop your collant temps like 15-25deg but make sure you replace the water with dex-cool b4 winter... the dex-cool (antifreeze) is only there so the water doesn't freeze but sucks as a coolant...

yeah the dexcool is also there as a lubricant and anti-corrosion agent. you will have to get other additives if you just want to use plain water. such as coolant system lubricant and anti-corrosion agents.
