2 weeks 2 ignition modules!
2 weeks 2 ignition modules!
I just had my ignition module replaced 2 weeks ago, and now it went out again. Does anybody know if this is something that can be reset, or does it have to be replaced? The dealer said they replaced it, but I find that hard to believe since it's gone again 2 weeks later. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx
I am now going in for my 3rd ignition module!!! It just went out this morning.
Are there any techs on the site that can possibly shed some light as to what could be causing this problem!!!

Would it have to be a short or bad ground just on that circuit, or could a short or bad ground anywhere cause it?
I just don't want them to end up saying it is because of my aftermarket stereo or anything else I've put into the car.

that actually could be it... when installing aftermarket electronics on any "new" yr vehicle. you should run anything thats an accessory on its own power , ground , and fuse.. new vehicles are very sensitive to voltage changes (drops, spikes etc) and if you're sharing a ground with other electronics for the stock accessories, you could also overload another one. so yeah that could be the cause.
do dive deeper into this. did this start happening soon after installing aftermarket equipment?

I've had my aftermarket stereo for at least 6 months, but the problem is just now happening. I have, however, added more subs and amps to the equation since I first added the stereo. I have a yellow top battery,2 farad cap, 960 rms on my kicker 5 channel amp, and 350 rms on my bazooka amp. My dash lights and headlights dim just a slight bit at night time. I only notice it because I look for it.
I've had the battery and cap since I started the system.
And thanks for the help on this!

Well, I did a search for ignition module shorting on google and I got tons of results that say the same thing:
If a coil shorts out in its primary coil, it will make the ignition module go bad very quickly. It will also make one or two pistons(two in our case) not fire.
When the dealeship replaced the ignition module the past 2 times, all they did was replace it and reset the computer! At least now I have a good idea of what the problem is when I have it towed in on Monday.
Just thought I would put this info out there in case anyone else goes through this.
