5th gear lock out?

Okay, so I just picked up my new 09 SS/TC on saturday. I have never driven a car with the lock out feature with manual transmission. I noticed that there is a lock out for reverse (which I understand), but also in order for me to get into 5th I have to push in the "lock out" disable button on the transmission to get into 5th gear. I've figured this out because ever time I tried to go into 5th it would place me in third unless if if pushed in the lock out "button" on the shift knob.

Is this normal or am I just not used to something like this. Thanks!

I dont think that is right.
Never heard of a lockout for fifth.

Does it go in real nice when you pull up on the switch and put it in fifth.

Yeah, but when I go to place it into 5th when driving on the highway I have to pull up on the lock out switch in order to get into 5th. Otherwise, I just jump straight to 3rd, I've driven manual for 6 years now ... it left me confused!

My 09 TC doesn't do that. The only time I have trouble changing gears is usually going into first, and reverse. I'm pretty sure that's only because it's been cold out. I never have that problem after I've already been driving for a while.

Man the car runs pretty rough when cold. You sure that isn't the case. It for sure should go into 5th without the lockout engaged.

They fixed it, some stupid linkage, now I don't have to push in the lockout when shifting into 5th!!! Woohoo!

It's still such a pain to do the lockout button.

I miss having my LS that didn't have lockout.

iv been reading the TWM short throw thread and apparently the shifter cables are adjustable. Sounds like your cable just needs to be adjusted. But since its covered under warrenty i wouldnt even **** with it

One thing I've noticed with the transmission, and the car in general is it runs rough in the cold until the coolant reaches about 70C (sorry no F conversion off the top of my head). As someone mentioned above until the transmission warms up I've noticed issues shifting into first at a stand-still, hit the wall once or twice going into 3rd/5th and 4th occasionally got pissy with me.

I'd imagine the linkage resolved the issue, but if you run into problems getting into any other gears, particularly when cold, don't cram it in. I'm going to keep an eye on mine once it warms up around here (which at this rate might be the summer of 2010) and see if it keeps it up.

The issue shifting into first from a stand still is normal, as the gear teeth may be lined up and since nothing is moving, the synchro won't mesh.

The 3rd 4th and 5th doesn't seem quite right however, they should shift just as good cold as any other time, as long as the trans fluid is correct.

Mine does the same thing. In the morning its extremely hard to get it into reverse and then first, even trying to enage other gears then first doesnt work. I figured it was the cold but it still has difficulty enaging when warm. Also 2, 3, 4, 5 when I shift its not smooth like I can "feel" it engaging and its kinda harsh. I dont know why itd be doing this Ive never missed a gear or grinded them, its only got 18000km on it and I really dont beat on it. Is going in on Tuesday.

I agree on both your points, but I'm primarily waiting until early summer (or late spring) to take it in to confirm a few things.

#1, the car only has 1500km on it and it has been super cold as of late (-15C and below) so I'd like to wait for the warmer weather, as well as a few extra km on the car to see if it's simply a break-in thing, or if it's potentially realted to the cold.

#2, get some more experience and "spirited" driving under my belt to make sure it's not driver error since I'm still adjusting from my 2.2. I've tried opening it up a bit as of late, but with the temperatures I seem to have a knack for finding the ONLY patch of ice on the road whenever I get in the mood to stomp on it .

If I still have symptoms come summer I will be requesting the dealer take a look at my syncros and shift linkage/cable since I had similar symptoms on my 2.2 and 64,000km later lost my 2nd/4th gears all together due to what the dealer "thought" was a tight/frayed shifter cable (was a quick and non-intrusive diagnosis).
