So I Know this has been a hot topic for a lot of us Cobalt Users and there are hundreds of posts regarding this issue.

I Apologize in advance for making and additional thread for this issue. As there are no pictures or illustrations to show the exact location of this problem with GM's poor design.

I have gone through the PPS, SDM and all are functioning correctly with a multimeter. There are no wires rubbing or cut underneath the seat or carpeting. BUT, this is what I did find, the culprit of the SIR airbag light and DTC code problem. A Blue Broken Wire located at the base of the seatbelt on the passenger side, causing an open circuit in the system. (Photo Below)



The wire coming from the seat belt retractor forms a 60 to 270 degree bend when the seat belt is pulled and retracted for passengers in the vehicle. This causes undue strain on the plugged in connector located just above the metal bracket, pinching the wires and breaking them.

So from all previous reading, (Thank you fellow cobalt enthusiasts who have gone through this problem already.) I am pretty sure its going to be an entire seat belt assembly replacement and wire harness re-route from my dealership as I cannot find a place online who sells them.

I'm dealing with the same issue. Definitely going to have to check that.

GMPartsDirect may have the harness. Grab the part number from your dealer and look it up.

 

I have the part number from the dealership. It is 19169207 ( 2007 passenger side seat belt assembly). The harness runs underneath the carpet to the B-pillar. I just don't understand where to re-route the wire harness there isn't a lot of room along that runner board.The Kicker is definitely the seat belt assembly as it all comes in one piece; Belt, Retractor, Shoulder mount, and wire harness. As for price it ranges from $121 to $195. Hope this helps a bit.

If you encounter the bottom picture of no wire harness. I am guessing you have a newer model where they moved the connector to eliminate the issue with wire harnesses.

Here is how to fix it, I put a pic of how I modify the harness and carpet for less stress. I prefer my method, I haven't had any comebacks after doing multiple ones the last few years while other guys here who do the fix word for word in the bulletin have had comebacks were the wire breaks where the bend is.
