Any Ideas??

I have been driving manual cars for awhile now and have never ran into this problem, I don't know if anyone might have any ideas? The other day my check engine light came on and I haven't gotten a chance to take it to get scanned yet, but when I push the clutch in to shift the RPM's go up about 500 more as soon as I hit the clutch. Does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this??

You've got the same problem as me..P0507 - Idle control 100rpms higher than normal Fuel Loop 1......for me it was after I removed cleaned and reinstalled my Throttle Body....I disconnected my battery for an hour and reconnected it and the CEL went away and hasn't been back in about a week...

I am trying to diagnose this issue now and I have no CEL....the good news is there is only so many things that could be doing this though and I'll list them here, maybe you can help me...

1. Any of the seals between the throttle body and the manifold or the manifold and the heads (I took mine apart and cleaned and reassembled them...didn't help me)

2. PCV valve leaking. $20

3. Vacuum line leaking (usually indicated by constantly widely varying idle speed)

4. Bad Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor $36

5. Bad throttle body (typically sits at a neutral position thats slightly open, but can be freely moved to a completely open or completely closed position with pressure)(Mine still rotates freely so no problems there) Still if the electric motor is bad $70

6. Cracked Intake manifold...(mines not cracked so thats not it)

So it breaks it down to a #5, a #4 or a #2...for me at least.....

However this high idle isn't necessarily a bad thing.....I found when I was driving and went into neutral to coast I found my coolant temperatures dropped to 181*F which is pretty cool....

Well...to be honest I don't exactly see why not....I've got the pump pushing liquid through the radiator faster with minimal heatload from the engine's gas pedal...
Besides...I did this my whole trip to arizona a couple weekends ago before I cleaned my TB. Kick it in neutral at 800rpm going downhill at 75....cools everything down pretty quickly....

I'm looking at my MAP sensor because I still get idle....it just takes a while to get there....

For that to happen you have to be running hotter than the set thermostat temp
( Rad cant cool fluid down as quick as you are heating it)
otherwise it regulates the temp to what its suppose to.Around 80 deg C

Or your thermostat is sticking open or closing slow and not doing its job properly by regulating the engine temp.

ummm...i guess its possible...but my daily driving temperature city/freeway 189 like normal and 192/194 at WOT...i've never seen it drop to that temperaturee (181) unless i'm in the high idle in neutral coasting down a hill on the freeway...I doubt the thermostat only sticks when I'm on the freeway in neutral coasting....

____________
besides this is about mine and that other guy's high idle...not our coolant system...unfortunately, when i'm sitting in traffic and it does this...my temp goes up and then my system kicks on and drops it down just like its supposed to....

The idle stays up in are cars until you get down to about 5 mph and then drops down.
But your problem with the idle is when you start the car .
Thats what I got from your earlier posts.

oh ok thats the misunderstanding.....for me and bshoe its WHENEVER we push the clutch in to shift or are sitting in neutral....not just a startup

and my idle really isn't just speed related, its weird it'll sit at like 1800 and then drop down to like 1200 and sit there for about 10 seconds and then drop down to 800 like theres no problem...and I have no CEL anymore....

I got in my car this morning and the CEL is not on any more and it seems to be running fine now...maybe just a bug but it seemed to work itself out so hopefully thats the end of that problem!!
