Bad rings??

So i cant figure out whats wrong with my 07 cobalt ss. Bought a used block the owner said it might have fried rings but he wasnt sure he said it could of been his turbo. So my first mistake was not checking the piston for bad rings. I got it all hooked up and car was smoking from exhaust and from the oil filler cap. And in between the manifold flange and the turbo. So i removed the piston but how can i tell if the rings are worn? In the pictures i had already removed the rings.
