clunk noise

I know, I know..this has been talked about soo many times, but after going through soo many threads on this, i see that all the responses are old. So im just wondering has anyone had any luck with the steering clunk? I get the good ole rattle going over bumpy roads and slow speeds. Ive had the column replaced and no luck..the i-shaft will be next to do this week, see if that fixes it. Has anyone found the solution to this yet or is it always going to be a problem

Rattle going over bumps why would you think it was steering? It's more than likely either struts or try end links. Jack your car up and try to move stuff around by hand see if anything is loose.

If it sounds like marbles in a tin can then it is the plastic bearing in the steering column.

If it is a clunk that feels like it is in the cabin it is the steering shaft.

If it is in the wheel wells and clunking it could be a few things and youll have to look around a bit to narrow it down.

the steering wheel moves when going over bumpy roads and its like a hollow or plasticy rattle sound like something hasnt been tightened. I know its a common problem with these vehicles and its usualy diagnosed at the column, i shaft or sway bar bushings. I have had the endlinks replaced, all suspension is new, CABs are tight still...so the only assumption i have is the i-shaft since the column was already replaced which didnt help the situation, the rattle is still there.
do a drum roll with your tongue..thats the sound i get lol

if the car is parked on the ground and just moving the steering wheel you can hear a clunk. I doubt its the rack but who knows with these cars

I would definitely jack the car up and have someone turn the wheels back and forth while you listen to try and pin point the problem.

ok so im at the dealership now getting it checked since my warranty is going to expire soon...they just finished inspection and the tech said all suspension is tight and looks good, not sure why the rattle is happening so they are suggesting the ishaft..i also should to do the sway bar bushings that could be a cause

i hate the guessing game bullshit..dont understand why they just guess, i pay for repairs and doesnt fix problem. Should be refunded until they actually fix the issue. Lucky for me all i pay is the $50 deductible but i feel for you guys with no warranty (and soon ill be in that boat)

I get a clunk when turning the wheel back and forth when parked. I replaced the intermediate shaft and it didn't do anything to help the noise.

Any ideas? No rattle or anything, just that clunk and the steering feels loose/disconnected. Like I can turn the wheel an inch or two in each direction without the car physically turning much.
