Clunking Noise

I have had this clunking/rattleing noise when going slow over bumps and gravel type roads. I did some searches on this and found a couple of different possible answers. Intermediate steering shaft, control arm bushings, steering column, etc. I had the intermediate steering shaft replaced and now it seems like the noise is worse than before. Can anyone give me some more help on what the noise may be and possibly how to go about finding out exactly where it is coming from so I know what to have fixed. I guess what I am saying is, if you were a technician, how would you go about diagnosing the problem. Please help, I have dealt with this noise long enough and I can't take it anymore. Thank You.

it isn't the rear deck. The sound comes from the front of the car. I just can't tell if it is outside of the car, like the suspension or rack and pinion, or if the noise is coming from in the car, like the steering column. I also read a post with a bunch of Bulletins that the PCM and TCM may be hitting each other and making the noise. Not sure if that might be it or not.

I actually have the same problem, but haven't brought it in yet. It also seems to be more noticeable at temperatures around 45F and below for me. Since I live in louisiana it isn't that bad.

I figured they would tell me its because of the strut bar I have, since dealerships like to blame everything on simple mods. So I plan on removing that before I bring it in.

I am just noticing the same problem with my car. The temperatures do play a huge role in it. Exactly like you said....45 degrees and below. I'm getting ready to drive cross country. Is it something that needs to be fixed? I just got finished paying $650 for my friggin sunroof....I can't take much more of this!! HELP!

It sounds like either your column or your sway bar links. If you go in the under hood fuse block and remove the 60A mega fuse for the EPS ( electronic power steering ) it will isolate just the column. Drive it and if the noise is constant, its probably in the column. If your under warranty I'd take it to the dealer. I replaced mine under warranty at work.

Yea, I had that problem and got it fixed today, mine had to do with something with under my back seat where there was metal on metal action. They told me chevy had a bulleton about it so it sounded like a common problem.

Ive had the same problem under the back seat and the passenger door. I thought it was with something with the steering and **** but they eventually found it and replaced the ****. I only heard it when going over rocks or bumps. And yes the temp. does matter b/c I heard it when it was cooler out.
