cobalt tc random complete power loss
Hello folks. Joined here because im having a puzzling issue with my 09 cobalt tc.
Replaced variable cam timing exhaust and intake from code p0010. Fixed. No codes.
Now, few days later, car is randomly turning off while driving. Pulling NO codes. Im no mechanic but i dont even know what to check about this. Seems to occur on really hot humid days. Usually ok again after shutting off a bit till who know when. Ideas? Last time around, guages went bonkers and showed me a low fuel when 2/3 tank. How confirm if a fuel filter and hope not. One mechanic told me there are two fuel pump in this vehicle, but ive never read that anywhere?? Thanks much.

Thanks. How might i be able to check grounding? I assume you mean grounding of the engine block? This is hard for me to deal with because any mechanic might be able to scam me having zero proof of the exact problem. The battery is only a few month old and connects look solid. Those fuel pumps are pricy too. Its just unnerving driving about in traffic never knowing when it may konk out.

I'm getting desperate. Been in shop for weeks and they can't figure the problem. The problem accelerated to chronic. Can start the car and let it idle. It will die in approximately 15 minutes and completely undriveable in this condition.. After car dies out the symptom will repeatr itself but in more rapid fashion. Grounds have been check pull any codes even like this.

Mechanic is blaming pcm needs reprogrammed and replaced. A bit expensive fix. Has this been known to happen? Essentially, he ran the car even direct power and grounded with bypasses and car still dies. I'm running this by you guys since i have such limited experience.

Hard to diagnose without seeing, hearing it. I'm puzzled by how it can run for 15 minutes and then not. Could be electrical, could be something with fueling, etc. does the scanning of it while running and when it starts to die show anything? Surely they can hook it up and monitor its vitals when it starts to flake out.

Well, two months later these idiots fixed it. Really shady events that didn't go thru dealership for pcm as they said. Got wrong part waiting two weeks, then another week getting right one. I cannot prove or disprove what happened. I think it could have been a ignition issue which was covered up after the first "pcm delivery". Anyhow, been running ok for a week now. I also wonder since i had the pcm programming modified awhile back, if it just got corrupted and could have been fixed via a reflash.
