So, me and allshot get his ride all tuned up and working great, so we jump in my 2.4 to hack on it a little. After a couple powerless runs, we hear a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment insync with engine revs. ******* Perfect!

First thing i did was change the oil, chocolate milk, yummy. No shaving tho. I have driven in the rain alot resently and havent change the oil in 10k miles (amsoil 15k), so this could be the explaination of the chocolate milk and not a headgasket.

Also, I've NEVER had rattling noises with a blown headgasket before, which leads me away from thinking thats the issue. It kinda sounds like a spray-paint can being rattled. With a 5/16" tube at hand the sound seemed to come from the injectors.. so i swapped them out for new ones, rattling noise still there but power returned...

I'm completely open to suggestions, but im planning to take the cam cover off tomorrow and look for any rocker arm damage or lifters on the intake cam (which explains why the noise "seems" to come from the injectors).

... oh and taking it to the dealership isnt an option... lets just leave it at that =]

 

i have this same prob but i have a 2.2

the sound does seem its coming from the top of the engine

how convenient. My 2.0 ss/sc just started doing the exact same thing today. I left my house and it was fine. I went to the car wash, sprayed it off, started it back up and bam, sounds like ****. My only mods so far ar Borla catback and AEM-CAI. I have other stuff on the way but none installed yet.
