Dash Rattling Noise at Idle
Dash Rattling Noise at Idle
Second noise in my car this one drives me nuts. When I'm parked running at idle or even driving at idle I have a rattling noise in my dash and its driving me nuts. Any ideas what it might be?? A little gas to bring it above idle roughly 1300 RPM it goes away.
I have probably about 30,000 dash rattles. But that's probably my fault (poly trans and engine mounts)
Obvious ones:
-Crap in the glove box or crap in the left side cubby. Remove crap or line them with closed cell foam
Some that I have fixed:
- Rattle between the main dash section and the ~6" wide strip up front by the windshield (yep they are 2 pieces). I put in some weather strip style sticky foam between where the main dash piece goes under the other piece.
- Gauge cluster: This one is tough, for me there was a QC error on the bezel where it grips under the gauge cluster. One of the 2 fingers was missing and allowing it to flop around. I glued on some more plastic. That and realigning/tightening it a bit (screws under the "hood" of the cluster and behind the silver trim pieces) seemed to fix it sofar.
- Silver trim pieces: I have popped those off several times and they were getting very floppy, mostly the long one on the passenger side. To fix you need to move the clips onthe back a bit so they are all the way on the plastic fins as far as they can go. I had to take the clips off and rebend the prongs to get them to do this.
I still have more, but they are dwindling. I have noticed steering makes them immediately louder. If on the highway and tracking perfectly straight my rattles dissappear. But once you put a little pressure to turn a bit the ratling comes back. I can almost make a beat with it if I concentrate.
Oops didn't realise you had an LS, in that case I don't think those trim pieces I was talking about are silver on yours.
