Dragging Rear Brakes? Normal or no?

So I plastidipped my wheels Gunmetal grey. I jacked my car up (jack stands + floor jack) and took off my wheels and dipped them. After I finished I lowered my car back down but had my ebrake engaged. I disengaged the brake and it dropped the ride height like a couple inches I'd say.

Drove off and I heard this nasty scraping noise and stuff. It sounded bad.

Turns out I was out of pad. I went ahead and got my rotors done and replacement pads.

Now I have a slight scrapping noise but its still noticeable. Should I have it reworked or is that just how cobalts are and I didn't notice it before?

i heard about this same scenario from a turbo ss guy last week... basically the slide pins might be sticking due to not being lubricated or your ebrake spring on the caliper is not releasing (i had that problem on my old calipers)

it got so bad on my car before replacing the calipers that i got out the car one day and smelled the brakes... felt my wheel and the spokes were hot as hell!

this other guy i was talking about couldn't even drive in the end because they were dragging so bad

the solution was to just get to calipers and make sure u lube the slide pins good. for me (06 ss/sc) at autozone i paid like 75 bucks for 2 new calipers and then they give u core charges back with ur old calipers. might be moar expensive for your car idk but thats the solushin

Sorry I should have added that I lubed the slide pins before I gave it to BIG O tires so I'm assuming that isn't it.

However the EBrake spring is great info.

Yea man cuz that was my other problem the springs were just kinda... siezed up not really disengaging, it was really shitty because i couldn't tighten the ebrake anymore so my car wouldn't hold its spot with only ebrake on and at the same time it was f***ing dragging. so idk for the price i'd say calipers are worth it since u can't just replace those springs. besides the calipers idk what else could be causing your issue.

and if and when u replace the calipers, may as well get new pads/rotors (i reccomend r1 concepts their slotted rotors are holding up great for me) and hawk hps pads.

also, bleed the system counterclockwise starting at the rear passenger side.

good luck! off to the parts store you go!

you basically gotta slide off the ebrake handle cover (little release tab on the bottom side) and from there i think u use a 10mm socketratchet and adjust... i kinda forget how to adjust i though i think its a 2bolt thing so u screw one more down then the other to adjust

vahdyx and BPacak,

Have you had any success over the weekend resolving your brake situations? If I can be of any assistance (checking into warranty/recall information, assisting in working with a dealership, etc.) please don't hesitate to get in touch via private message.

Best,
Sarah

I tried to adjust the Ebrake. My Ebrake doesn't go up as high as it used to. Its as if it hits full lock before it reaches top of the pull, if you catch my drift. So today I'm gonna try loosing it up. Its my understanding that 2009s are the only model effected. Is this true?

'2009's the only model effected' - i don't think so since we both dealt with essentially the same problem, however there is a thread somewhere about the turbo guys trying to get a brake recall... here it is didn't remember it earlier but maybe this will help
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/08-1...recall-187787/

ideally an ebrake should be tight and holding the car still at 5 clicks on most cars.
