Red face First post and its a bad one :(

Hey everyone first post! I really hate that my first one is about a problem with my car. I have a 2007 Cobalt SS 2.4. I noticed tonight that when my car is idling in neutral that it makes a sound like metal shaving over another metal. Before I noticed this my clutch felt a little "squishier" than before. The noise goes away when I engage the clutch and even when the car is moving the noise is gone. I am a pretty aggressive driver so I accidentally shifted into second from third when it should have gone into fourth gear. (75mph = ) Yes it was stupid to do didn't mean to. So I am sure that is what caused it. But I am not sure how to go about having it looked at or what could be the problem exactly. Just wanting to know what to expect when I take it into the dealer. I am sure I will get a few learn to drive/shift comments. I expect it :p.

Yeah I'm pretty honest so I will tell them what I did.

cruisn how long did it over rev for?

Less than a second. As soon as I noticed the jerk back from the transmission I hit the clutch and shifted out.

welcome and be honest... not stupid... tell them you do not know what is wrong with your car, the tranny is making a weird noise.... you honestly dont know what is wrong w/ it, so your not lying... dont incriminate yourself for somthing that "may" not have even caused it.

Good point. Its still under warranty obviously. This isn't the only problem I have on her right now. The sunroof button cover fell out on me one day, but a little super glue fixed that. The e-brake won't lock into place. That's a little more pressing. Anyways I appreciate the feedback and replies everyone. I feel better about it now. Guess I will be driving the Tiburon for the time being.

I agree with that throwout bearing idea... but there is no way that should go out on a 2007 car... them things usually last for a while...

Congratulations. You are an idiot. Just do us all a favor and aim for a tree next time you decide to drive drunk, so you don't endanger someone else.

haha, i was thinking it. why would you admit that you got in your car so drunk that you couldn't even get the thing moving. shouldn't have gotten in the car in the first place.

If the clutch isn't screwed then they will cover it, no worries. Though we have had some bad clutches coming in lately not the drivers fault at all, the pressure plate just breaks apart.

A little update on it. I decided to drive it to work today. It seems to be driving just fine. I could be over reacting about how the clutch feels when I press the pedal to the floor. As far as the clutch goes I never ride it or do anything that would cause additional wear on it (as far as I know of). I didn't hear the noise at all other than the initial start up at my house. We'll see how it goes over the next few days. I will probably take it in next week anyways to get the E-brake looked at, and when I do I will have them check it out for me. I appreciate the responses! Guess I should learn to shift better before I purchase the hahn turbo kit? :p
