Exclamation Fuel Ran Brake?

Yesterday I get a CEL, and the car stop decelerating, and would stay at whatever speed I was at, when I would remove my foot from the gas.

Brought it to GM, they said it was a fried O2 sensor. They replaced the o2 sensor under warranty, CEL disappeared, car drove perfectly.

Next day

I'm driving, and next thing I know, as I slow down, my brakes disengage, and the car downshifted and gunned it. Slapped her in neutral, and the revs kept going up, past 4000 *thru the limiter* , so I turned off the while in neutral and let the car cruise to a full stop.

Turn the car back on, and my DIC says FUEL RAN BRAKE.

for those that dont believe, heres a picture...
*there is no CEL*

all advice and comments are appreciated, will be bringing to the dealer tomorrow, but I wanted people opinions on the matter

Thanks

Matt

I have no idea on this one...sub'd for results. Glad you were smart enough to throw it in nuetral and shut it down tho instead of dialing 911 and complaining that your car won't stop and is accellerating uncontrolably....

Is that what it means lmfao?

jks

i checked the list of codes (in one of the css threads), and theres no code for what my DIC is displaying.

perhaps the computer itself is screwed up?

gm can't take my car in till next wednesday at the earliest for full diagnostics. However, I was at GM at 7:45, and was able to get the car scanned in between appointments.

When i arrived at GM, literally, when I parked the car, FUEL RAN BRAKE disappeared. I had the ECU scanned and it showed nothing abnormal. Everything was fine. UGHHH...

But I made sure to print the picture I took, and showed it to the technician. And he told me to leave the car tuesday night next week, and they will due a full check up for wires and everything. Last thing GM needs is a Toyota epidemic...

Also, i called 3 different GM's, none of them ever heard of the FUEL RAN BRAKE. very strange. im disappointed that nothing was found. To be frank, I dont know if driving the car is safe or not.

i hope everyone stays sub'd in this thread till next week so I can be back with results.

Thanks

Matt

You have photo documented proof that there was an error code on your car, so if anything were to go wrong while the dealership told you to bring it back, knowing it's your only car, then GM is liable for anything that happens....i.e. you goin into a ditch or anything like that. At least thats how it works here in the states

There has to be something in the system for that. The car obviously knows something is up, it has a pre-programmed message displayed. that means there is a set series of events that it recognizes, and is alerting you.

that or the BCM is fucked beyond believe and is mixing up "fuel range low" and "parking brake"

i would say this but whatever it is your **** is not right they should have taken the car and given you a rental. have you done anything with the electrical of the car? anything as little as swapping a battery or installing HIDs its possible you may hav done something wrong to cause it but its very unlikely.

My battery died completely this winter due to my sub that I installed.
I bought a new battery, AC Delco batt. and added a killswitch to the sub.

I had GM install battery so I know it's not that.

The only big thing done recently is getting the new o2 sensor.

And yeah GM was being a douche regarding rentals. Im 19, legally able to sign a contract and purchase a car, which I did with my gt, and yet they won't loan me a car because I am not 25. That's kinda stupid.

On another note, could it possibly be that the BCM/PCM is fried. That might explain the uncontrolled acceleration, as well as the unheard of warning message?

edit..

come to think of it, when the FUEL RAN BRAKE went away, it went to Fuel Range XXX, and my DIC is set to always display L/100KM.

edit 2...

how would one go about ******* up the BCM/PCM

a power surge within the system could possibly fry either one theyre just basically computers so its not as unlikely as one would think

Bump --> update!

Brought the car to Gm at 7:45 this morning.
The 4 guys at the service counter were so confused with the picture I brought them of the DIC, as well as 2 mechanics, and 3 of the technicians.
Today will be a fun day as I wait for the results...

I will keep everyone posted.

Thanks!

Matt

Hey guys, so its been 11 hours, and GM finally called. They said I won't be recieving the car back today because they have NO IDEA what's wrong with it. I told them to use a Tec II, they said they did, and nothing. I said perhaps its a fried BCM, and they said perhaps but they are not sure. So i argued and asked wtf they were doing for 11 hours with my car. Anyways, they said they wanted me to go in and meet the manager for GM to tell my story... its so fucked up. anyways, so I have no car today, chances are, no car tomorrow, and since I am 18 they won't give me a loaner. fml

Thanks, stay posted

could be the abs sensor(s) also. lets take bets ladies and gentleman. Im sure the dealership already checked the bcm w/ a dvom, and the pcm too (if they were smart).

UPDATE

GM called this morning, I spoke with a technician. Very nice person, and he wanted to hear my story again. He's been working on my car since 730 AM yesterday, and started working again at 7 AM this morning. They can't seem to figure out what is wrong, and said I won't get my car back today. They will give me a loaner by 4 oclock however so yay on that. I said did you check the BCM...

He told me that they are less concerned about the BCM pulling random codes, and more concerned on what is making the engine have these random acceleration and deceleration problems. He said " The BCM doesn't control the acceleration parts of the car, so until we figure what that is, the BCM is the least of our problems". I assume that means they havent even checked it? Only god knows.. I'll keep everyone posted!
