Fuel Ran Brake?
They have the sense to keep the car, somewhere along this they will find it. If you were to suggest anything suggest the same driving condition that this condition happened, such as with the engine hot after it's been driven for xx miles etc, how hot or cold it was when it happened, if it was raining or not, humid, dry all useful diagnostic information. Anything to help them get your car fixed and back to you but at this point best not to suggest anything as they are gonna go by the book anyways, step by step until they find something. Actually GM will probably send an engineer to look at it if they don't figure it out after xx days, at least this was protocol at my dealer.
I had a broken timing set in my 03 GMC 2500HD duramax couple years back that GM fought with me about a lemon law ruling despite having had my injectors changed three times, the high pressure pump failed once, and the fuse block ground strap started ON FIRE right inside the shop. Not to mention unusual fuel unloading causing compressor surge. The root cause? high frequency interference from the alternator that only presented itself after the truck had been driven for an hour or more. I did get my loan paid off and my down payment returned, but they did not refund the 10 payments I had already made on it. Oh and they tried everything to blame my problems on everything from the grill guard causign lack of airflow (it was tubular) to my 35 inch tires (factory is 33.7 inch) they never found a aftermarket tune, never had one anyways, I even had my in dash dvd player blamed as the cause, but despite being charged to remove it without my permission the problem still came back. And one last little nightmare, I gave them the truck when I got home from a deployment August 2005, ruling on the lemon law November 05, from that point I had no truck anymore and no money, refunded in DECEMBER 2006, so I bought a 2000 Dodge Ram and never looked back nor have I had any problems with it that aren't my own damn fault.
And some background to all that, I bought the truck, had to go on a short deployment to Afghanistan, the truck sat, wouldn't start with the jump pack when I got back, used two jump packs, started fine, drove it back to the house, left it over night, wouldn't start again, but only needed one jump pack this time, drove it around all day running errands didn't have any problems for a week at least. Truck was stored in a climate controlled indoor environment while I was gone, batts were disconnected.

I really wouldn't expect your car back this week, what I believe the problem is and what they should do about vs what they are going to do because it's a safety problem...anything that activates and modulates brakes, whilst increasing power output at the same time is a do not pass go for any auto manufacturer, Toyota leading the way on this, for similar electrical system issues. Ghost in the machine man and I really wanna know what they found as soon as you hear something.
At least they were cool enough to give you a loaner even though you're not old enough...hope they figure it out...if not tell them to straight trade you for a SC or TC so they can take as long as they need to fix it before putting it on their lot.
BUMP.. Update time
GM called. Engineer came in, spent a couple of hours on the car. Engineer said "don't give him back his car..."
I spoke to the manager and either tonight or tomorrow I am going to be picking up another loaner car. Im not trying to be snobby, I just dont like driving a boat... im gonna get a g5 se or a cobalt ls.
spoke to my folks, they are going to come with me either tonight or tomorrow and speak with the manager, and discuss options as to trading in the 5 and purchasing another car.
I'm not sure if this falls under good news or bad news. Truthfully, I wanted to get my car back and to tell everyone the problem and the solution, but if I have to get another car than so be it. Cars still brand new, just hit 40 000 km on it, and i just bought new tires lol. sucks!
anyways, ill keep everyone posted!

....so basically..... Camaro SS? lol nah, I dunno. But sounds like some serious ****. I'd at least bargain for the best end of the scale of the current value of a GT, if not better due to all the waiting and inconvenience.
Realistically they'll pay off your loan, and like me possibly give you back your down payment to reuse on another car on the lot. But then again my truck did start on fire in their shop so that tells you alot. Don't let this incident sway you from GM, though it should tell you something about the frailty of the electrical components. I think another G5 would be alright, or maybe a 2010 SS, either way they won't give you another car, they WILL pay off the current car and give you the option to make another purchase. On the upside this will make your credit score go up.
I would go for an SS/TC (lol technically, I DID go for an SS/TC) ...invoice price for one is what, like $19 000 CAD so I mean, it's not like it's gonna hurt the dealer real bad. And even at invoice price, GM is still making money on it.
So if they give you a mulligan on buying your G5, so to speak, and maybe you negotiate to get employee pricing or something since you've had to go through the inconvenience and now have a doubt in GM products..... that would bring you into SS/TC territory f'sho
Then again, I don't really know what the dealer is willing to do for you. Maybe they'll be ****** and say "What car? We didn't sell you a G5 with accelerator problems." quite loudly over the sound of a paper shredder destorying all evidence that the car existed.

My honest opinion, 2009 was the best year for the balt ss. I would be picky and look for an unsold 09 SS to grab up at 20 or less. At least being a member of this forum you'll know the do's and don'ts immediately. You'll know that changing your rotors, pads and lubing the caliper slides will save you a headache in the future, you know that running MORE than 23psi is generally asking for trouble in the long run without better pistons. You know the front brakes are sex, the car looks sick in black or sport red tint, or white. Plus you can find them with or without the high rise wing.
The Camaro RS is sick as well, BUT it's like driving a tank with very small windows, a huge A pillar you have to look around to make semi-blind turns and the high horsepower v6 is only necessary since the car weighs quite a bit. I love my balt, but then again I loved alot of cars I've had. Go with your gut man.

I say look at the SS/TC if you really want another new GM, otherwise take a look around the used car lot. I don't know about up in Canada, but there are a lot of nice cars sitting around dealers' used lots right now that they are practically giving away...
It was a beast though! Back to the OP, You should talk to the dealership owner and GM and ask them to consider a buyback. It has more miles than a tipical buy back car, but you never know, they might just do it to keep you happy.
BUMP - Update
GM Called.
Last night they shipped my car out to a GM HQ in Canada, it was advised by 2 engineers to do so.
GM will call me again Monday by 4PM when they receive the car again and they will then tell me if the car is safe to give back or not.
Stay Sub'd!
I'll keep everyone posted!
Thanks!
Matt
