Help! Recall "fixed" ABS light on.
Help! Recall "fixed" ABS light on.
I'm looking for some advice on what is my fault and what is my dealers. About a month ago i dropped my cobalt off at the dealer, and have been driving a rental on GM's dime since. I got my letter about the dealers receiving the parts to do the recall about a week and a half ago. after not hearing from the dealer, i called them. When i asked if my car was ready, they said that everything was fixed last Friday, but they were having trouble re-setting the pcm, and that an abs light was on. They said it was because the pcm and car didn't numbers match. Well, that makes sense. I had swapped my pcm for one from zzp when i ordered my stage kit. After getting off the phone, i figured that i was at fault here, for toying with my car. When explaining this to a friend, he said it was on the dealer. "you brought them a vehicle with no CELs. They worked on it, they should have to give it back no worse than when it went in" Now, if i was going to drive the car, i wouldn't care. But I've wanted to sell my car since a couple weeks before the recall came out, and it's very difficult to sell a car that won't pass inspection. Any ideas?
Update:
After receiving a phone call from hertz saying that if i didn't return their car today they were going to report it stolen, i talked on the phone with the Chevy dealership, and cleared up some things.
1. according to my dealership, it's standard procedure to flash (or reprogram) the pcm after the work has been done. Their computers were throwing red flags that the vin did not match and that errors may occur if they went through with the flash. So they didn't go through with it.
2. There are no check engine lights currently. However, by not flashing the pcm, they couldn't be sure that after going through the driving cycles, that one wouldn't arise in several days.
So, this was just a misunderstanding. The dealer was informing me that they weren't going to flash my pcm and tune, but were also covering their assess, because they didn't go through the full recall procedure which includes a flash. I'll update with any more relevant information.

Bitch.
Them.
Out.
Non matching PCM's do not make the ABS light come on.
Have them scan it, I bet it has a bad wheel speed sensor. Hopefully you took a dated pic of the mileage and fuel level the moment you left it with them. Keys to a "fast" car left at a dealership (or any service shop) are not unlikely to be used.

A thought not about the abs light but you got me wondering. Do they have to re-flash the entire PCM when doing this recall, overwriting any tune we may have on there completely ******* us all over and having to get re-tuned?
No. They dont. They just like to read the PCM and then blame any problems you have on your tune, unmatching VIN, or saying it wont cummunicate. Its the dealer's way of trying to not cover things they fucked up.
I used to have issues with blowing abs sensor and light coming on in wet weather, so I unplugged them, silicones the connectors where wires enter, hooked em back up and never had a problem again.
