I'm looking at a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SSSC that has 124,000 miles. I'm not sure how much longer it will last. There is no exterior rust except for alittle bit on the bottom. It is 6 speed manual. Thanks for the answers ahead of time.

welcome, are you looking to mod it yourself or is it already modded? also the only way it would be a 6spd is if a previous owner did a conversion. otherwise it will be a 5spd.

Its all ready modded. It says stage 2. I'm worried the engine won't work much longer. My mechanic friend said that if there is a stage 2 engine modifications then he won't be able to diagnose anything. If I was going to mod it I wouldn't do any engine mods unless they would add to how long the engine would keep running. I went to test drive it and it was a 6spd. It was for $3300. I was just wondering its worth it.

if its already modded and its only a stage 2, youll be perfectly fine! usually a stage 2 is nothing more then a 2.8 pulley, intake, injectors, colder plugs and belt paired with a tune. youll be fine! theres a lot of guys who have modded supercharged cars with no problems.

Stage 2 is 3.0 pulley. Never 2.8 in any stage 2 kit

Stage 2 has miniscule/no effect on engine life/SC life

Find a new mechanic friend. Stage 2 is barely more power than stock and doesnt make anything harder to diagnose. When properly maintained, SC cobalts can last a very long time.

if it has a gm stage 2 performance package (identifiable by the 4 blue bolts on the supercharger pulley and the silver and fuel black injectors) it will have no effect on engine life. this kit was put together by gm performance, it allowed you to retain your full warranty when the car was new. the kit was also 50 state emissions legal. stage 2 was simply a smaller supercharger pulley, a shorter belt, larger injectors and a computer software update done by the gm dealer. it doesnt do anything weird to the computer, a scantool still communicates fine with it.

if your "mechanic" friend says he cant diagnose anything on it, dont let him near the car cause he will always be blinded by the fact that its "modified" and will try and blame every issue on that.

further, the lsj engine is rock solid, my car has 230,000 km (roughly 143,000 miles), it got a stage 2 kit put on when it was new, got further modded at around 12,000km with a 2.85" pulley (quite aggressive at the time), and around 150,000km i went to a 2.7" pulley and 60lb injectors (among other things) and its been putting down around 270hp for at least the last 5 years. its happy as ever to do it, not one engine issue.
