As soon as the engine is started. It's just like a water pump.

thanks.. only asked because i changed my engine oil earlier today and noticed the coolant wan't flowing so i reached under the car to see if i could feel coolant flowing through the line and when i looked back in the engine bay it was flowing. i didn't tap the pump or anything so i wasn't sure.

if you crank your car, pop the hood, and check for coolant flow, and there is none, something is wrong.
