Key gets stuck in the ignition

What used to only happen every once in a while now happens almost everytime I turn off the car.

The key will not release from the ignition until I take the car back out of park and slam it back into park. It always releases after I do that. But it is getting really annoying. Anyone know how to fix it?

Switch on the shifter assembly is bad. Very common problem.
If the key gets stuck again, take the little rubber cover under the ignition lock off (it just pops out), reach your finger in and push the locking pin back, that will allow you to remove the key.
If you still have warranty, it will be covered.

And before someone else says it, this has been covered many many times, search is your friend

I get that from time to time. Try this how-to. If the switch fails on me I'm going to have to do this. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...ght=automatics
