Problems/Service/Maintenance Do you have problems with your new 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4L? What kind of service did you have done?

maybe timing chain tensioner?

Been noticing this sound getting more noticeable.

Uhh...yeah...turn it off and take off the valve cover. Check slack at the chain cause holy crap I haven't heard a racket like that from under the hood since I tossed a bearing in my Buick.

Shut that off and do not drive it again. 24 seconds ago if possible. Lol yes definatly sounds like a tensioner thats broken, an prolly hasnt fallen out yet - keeping your chain still somewhat in place.
When that goes, bye bye motor. Fyi

Other possibility is that you're hearing your bent valves fking your valve seats sideways

Yea

A tensioner is $75 from gm
Do a compression test After tensioner replaced. That will shed some light . Because that sounds BAD, worst ive ever herd since i joined thi site. And everyone has replaced their stock one cuz their ****

I know that its way bad. I let it warm up for about 5-10 min and its gone whats that about

ive done it myself on my lsj. got it from CED. theres a howto on here that shows everything. .im no where near mechanically inclined but it was fairly easy.

I definitely will not. It seems pretty easy on an lsj but not so straight forward on an lnf. I'm gonna bite the bullet on this one and get it to a dealer. I'd rather pay the money to have it done right than me screw it up.

Its extremely easy, use the same socket that you use to take the oil filter cap off. You can still wiggle a breaker bar back there to break it loose. Old tensioner out, new tensioner in. Done. Takes less than 5 minutes.

Wasn't bad at all to change. Painted my valve cover why it was off. Now I need to change IM gasket.
