oil leak here???

having an oil leak on the SS in the area shown below. getting a funky smell while driving and after shutting the engine down. I know there are alot of threads on the subject and have read the excellent "How To" thread by Gimpster, which I will be performing this weekend. It seems that there is wetness right under the MAP sensor and also on and under the disc. the fuel pump area looks like it has leaked, so I am sure that is where it is coming from. located the fuel pump face seal from a dealer and the Toyota RTV.
has anyone had their leaks in the same location as I do? seems that after a drive it is there in the same area, but cannot quite see how it gets there, unless it coming from the tube and then evaporating.

See this thread I made. This is the GM service bulletin. I just got this done UNDER WARRANTY. If you click on the links there, you can see my original posts and pics. Copy the GM info and show it to the GM service people. You need to order some parts. I would NOT do this yourself...let the dealer do it. I got a free rental for a day..no problem. It's a 3 hr job minimum. You're nuts to do this yourself, when GM will do it for FREE...and done right.

Mine was leaking at the cam cover end cap, I removed it put a bead of RTV on it and reassembled ir, no leak since then.

Edit: as for the dealership doing things right that's why when I got my car back from having a transmission replaced they neglected to tighten any of the nuts/bolts on the lower control arms during re-assembly.

If you're look at the bulletin, you'll see it ALSO involves the FUEL PUMP seal and a new PIPE.
Man, that must be one shitty dealer there! My dealer has ONLY GM CERTIFIED ASE techs working on the cars. They have done ALL my recalls so far (Charge pipe..power steering motor..and now this one) no problems at all! I checked the parts list on my order for this TSB and they did EVERYTHING called for...down to using the proper cam sealant.
I think some unscrupulous dealers have unqualified people hanging around for *grunt* work and prolly pass off some jobs to them to save $$$. They pay them $8/hr and then rip off the warranty and pocket the difference. I would have REPORTED this to GM!!
My dealer said that I will get a survey from GM in the mail asking for my opinion on satisfaction with their service!

wasn't aware about it being covered under the 5yr/100k warranty, I'll call them tomorrow to find out. Although I still may prefer to do it myself, will see what they have to say. thanks for the info......

I just had mine done at the dealer as well but it's still leaking, so much for being "done properly".

Mine has been bone dry. It really has to be done right and it's not just the cam seal..you have the fuel pump seal and pipe as well. Look at the copy of the work order they give you. They are supposed to list ALL the parts used on that work order and they should be the same as the bulletin.
Here are the parts:

12609291
Camshaft Cover Gasket

12595951
Gasket, High Pressure Fuel Pump Gasket

12600313
High Pressure Fuel Pump O-Ring

12615401
High Pressure Fuel Pipe

12378521 (U.S.)***(P/N 88861417 small tube)
Silicone US

88901148 (Canada)
Silicone

***Note: The Cam sealant is critical. They used a SMALLER tube on mine so the PN was different. I found this:

In 2005, GM consolidated the use of liquid gaskets/engine sealants (April 2005 TechLink).
At that time, two sealants replaced all previous sealants referred to in SI.

One of these, Engine Sealant 12378521 (p/n 88901148 ACDelco Canada), was released in a 150 gram cartridge, to be used in a conventional caulking gun.

The cartridge and conventional caulking gun proved to be too large and cumbersome in certain instances when used in on-vehicle service.

To address this concern, GM Powertrain Engineering suggested releasing the engine sealant in a 75 gram squeeze tube (fig. 23). This product will be available, packaged six to the carton, with nozzle.

P/N 88861417
US VehicleCare
Engine Sealant
75 gram squeeze tube
