P0172 code caused by intake?

Hi, I have a 2.4l SS and I recently put a new intake in. It was fine for about 24 hours then it threw a CEL. I went and got the code read and its a p0172. I've cleaned the maf sensor, had the code cleared numerous times, checked for leaks, and everything seems fine. switched to the stock air box and the check engine light hasn't come back on. Just curious as to why its causing a too rich condition and what I have to do to fix it. Thanks for your help.

and could it just be the computer overcompensating for the air increase? and would a tune fix that?

The computer would not Overcompensate for a increase airflow. It would regular compensate.

Best I can understand and explain is this: Two codes P0171 (System Too Lean) and P0172 (System Too Rich) The MAF tells the computer along with other sensors how much air is comming into the engine. The computer then commands the pulse width of the fuel injectors to inject a calculated and predetermined amount (This is data in the tune) of fuel. Then The O2 sensor measures the oxygen in the exuast and tells the computer if its burning rich, or lean, or stoke (right on) If its burning rich, the computer will decrease the injector PW by up to 20%, if it's running lean the computer will increase the injector PW up to 20%. This value, is known as your fuel trim. Has both long term and short terms. If the fuel trim goes over 20, then it throws a P0171 Code, System Too Lean. In your case, you have P0172, System Too Rich, this means that the fuel trim is less then -20. If you have an interceptor gauge, you can moniter Long Term Fuel Trims.
It is possible that the intake caused the code.
Diffrent intakes have diffrent diamaters and maf sensor placements. This effects their accuracy.
Aperently your intake maf placement makes the maf read more airflow then what is actually traveling in, thus initally dumping too much fuel, and then trimming the fuel down.
The PCM tries to get a A/F Ratio of 14.7
