Paint Worries

Just washed and waxed the Cobalt and I noticed that the paint is like GONE off the rocker panels and leading bulge of the quarter panels... jeez, my Cavalier had over 100,000 miles on it before it started doing this. The Cobalt only has 25,000... I don't get it? Sound like something a warranty might cover, or am I screwed?

yes your warrenty should cover paint defects ...i think its either 100 k or 60...usually it covers rust and any paint defect but check with your dealer.

i is poor and hand wax wtih Meguiars Gold Class wax (it was a Christmas gift). I just noticed that it's like the paint has been blasted off... what pisses me off was that my previous Cavaliers never had this happen til well into the sunset of their operational lives.

my friends are telling me that I am pissing up a rope. They are telling me because I changed from the stock steelie wheels and wimpy tires to a Motegi MR7 15" wheel and a one sizer beefier BF Goodrich T/A that it won't be covered. Even though I went ONE size bigger on the tires, that shouldn't have mattered. My Cavaliers all ran 14" wheels with 215-60-14 tires and this never happened. I called the dealership where I bought this car this afternoon. My alarm never went off so I never rolled my big ass out of bed until 4pm... so I have to head down there tomorrow afternoon.

I have a feeling that the dealer is going to tell me tough luck, pal.

Well, the dealership at first was going to cover it and then they called me back and started backpedaling saying that they didn't have a paint shop and that it wouldn't look factory but that they would make a note of it...
yeah **** that.

So i call up Chevrolet Customer Service, they call the dealership and the dealer tells them that the damage is from the tires and wheels I have on the car. I have 15" Motegi MR7's and 215-60-15 tires (1 size bigger than the stocker tires)... so the customer service idiot comes back and she tells me that because my tires and rims are not factory, there will be no warranty.

I am not ******* stupid... I had 2 sizes bigger on my Cavalier (all of them) and even at 100,000+ miles, the paint didn't do what this car is doing. So I tell her that i am getting ripped off and that this will be my last GM/Chevrolet. I am looking at a Hyundai Tiburon GT this afternoon.

Either way, it's going to cost me, to either have the whole car repainted or buy another one.

They have to be able to prove that it was your tires, so keep after them. If they give you too much grief, just throw the stockers back on a take it to a different dealership.

They have to prove, by law, that the wheels caused the damage

dude, don't take that. Off course they are going to give you the run around. It's how they make money. Make them know that you mean business, bring up the laws, talk to management, call Chevy again. Keep at it. Its a bad dealer that your dealing with, not exactly Chevy's fault. The customer service rep is basically relaying the message that the dealer doesn't want to tell you to your face. Keep yelling. The burden of proof is on them.

thanks for the help guys, it's appreciated... no sarcasm, i mean it.

It's been a lame fuckaround with this car. If it's the tires, how come the paint is blasted off the hood, bumper, spoiler? A friend of mine is a service writer and told me to keep after them. Be polite, but be persistant.

We'll see what happens.

Thanks again.
