PLEASE HELP: Electrical Issues
PLEASE HELP: Electrical Issues
Hey guys,
I apologize in advance for the long post that follows.
This is my first post other than my introduction. I have been having electrical issues with my 2010 Cobalt SS. The following list are symptoms my car is experiencing along with other information i believe will be useful in diagnosis:
- Digital speedometer is not working
- All lights on dash are not working (check engine light, seat belt light, etc.)
- Info button on steering wheel does not work
- Gauges all work fine (including lights associated with them)
- Cruise control works fine
- Competitive mode works fine
For the first week I was having these problems it would occasionally "fix itself" , for the lack of a better term, when I hit a bump in the road. After a variable amount of time the symptoms would re-occur. The car alarm would randomly go off when it was parked and when I went out to check it out the radio was on. This happened multiple times so I started disconnecting the battery.
Up until yesterday, the battery would die overnight (even after I gave it a full charge) if i did not disconnect the battery which leads me to believe something is drawing power instead of just the cold killing it. When I checked it yesterday it had held a charge overnight but the issues in the list above were still occurring.
I have checked a few fuses that i figured could be the problem but all were fine. Although, if you have any fuses in mind that could be a problem I am more than willing to check again. Also, if additional information would be useful please let me know.
I appreciate any help you can offer,
Mike

Try fuse 16 in the bcm. I had some of those symptoms you are experiencing. Such as all the lights in the speedo wouldnt work apart from fog, turn signals and the DIC i think its called. My steering info control wouldnt work, cruse control i think would work.
my AC wouldnt trow cold air and my issue was that fuse is loose in the BCM i added some prong to make it a tighter fit in the slot and it fixed my problem since the fuse was fine and i had switched it around. It was actually super easy to take off for me compared to the other ones. ohh also my rpd wouldnt work but idk if you have it.

Hey Eddie,
I just checked that fuse and sure enough it was blown. I replaced it and everything is working perfectly. Once again this site has provided me with incredibly accurate information that has saved me time and money. I cant tell you how much I appreciate the advice you have given me and how awesome the community on this site is.
Thanks again,
Mike

Also possible you have wires chaffing and shorting out your best bet is to follow the wiring harness that's associated with that fuse, I suggest you replace the fuse and make sure everything is working then move the harness around and see if it shorts out and that should help you have an idea where the issue is
