in reverse strage noise

This morning i was warming up the balt threw it in reverse after it warmed up to 100 and it made this sound as if i was dragging the brakes on a wet rotor. But i was reversing normally and wasnt pressing the breaks. I had been driving in the rain the night before. I put it into first, no sound, back in reverse and the sound was louder, kind of like a metal dragging on metal ghoast "whoooooon" sound... anything you guys have had?

I also get that occasionally, maybe like once a month or two. I'd also like to know what it is.

I get this too in my '06 SS/SC! I figured it was the brakes also, but like you I don't think I was on the brakes.

Although, do you guys get it when it's dry? It has rained here for months so my wheels are always wet.

I had this too one night backing out of my garage after i washed it the night before . I just assummed it was the brakes cleaning the surface rust off the rotors that happens when they get wet and then sit for awhile .

OK but seriously I've had that noise too after washing my car and stuff.

I've only had this problem when it has been dry it, and mainly when I am turning the wheel slightly.

I have this problem everyday, its not too loud so i live with it and its only in reverse. Just the rear brake pads on my rubbing the rust ridge on the rotor...nothing too major. the pads re-seat themselves as soon as i get into forward motion.

Even when not applying the brakes... the pads are still in contact with the rotors...

After the rotors get wet.... rain, car wash etc etc... a thin layer of surface rust will form on the surface of the rotors...

It should where off after a 1/4 to a 1/2 of a mile...

Reverse sometimes makes a little more noise then first+.

coming from the front or rear? do you apply your parking brake when parked? do you have an auto?

most people push there brakes when leaving from a just starting out situation. there will be some brake to rotor noise as the pads are still touching the rotor. its considered normal.

Another annoying thing about the brakes are after mine sits for a day or so after being washed and parked in the garage , when i first back out all the brakes need to be broke loose . Its like they are stuck to the rotors and actually make a slight pop before the wheels roll lol. My z28 and z24 did it too .

Wow, I had this happen again tonight, but this time it was REALLY loud like I'd say it was as loud as half volume on the stereo! It was a high pitch metal on metal noise, there has been no rain here for the last couple days. It is kinda freaking me out, my girlfriend really noticed it and she never gives a damn about anything to do with cars.

Hmm, I might have to take this in, it made the noise in reverse going up a steeper incline.

Same thing for me, its usually a wetness issue (wash, dew, rain). It's just a ****-poor GM design. I know the G8 guys have the same issues and they HATE it. I would too if I spent 30k+ on a car and it sounds like...well...a Cobalt
