Rough Idle on 06 2.2L

Anyone have a similar issue?

Just got my Cobalt about a month ago, it came with 3 miles on it. For the first few days I had it, it ran perfectly. After that I began to notice a slight shake at idle. It's seemed to be getting worse since then.

I tried turning off the air conditioning, didn't help. Shifting into neutral, didn't help. I've noticed that 2.0SC engine's have had some issues with rough idle, but I've researched and haven't found anyone with a 2.2L issue.

It almost feels as if the engine is going to stall, then catches itself and acts normal for a few moments, then begins the cycle again. It's got 3000 miles on it but began to do it with about 500.

Anyone else?

After I rev it, it'll sometimes sputter like it wants to die, then catch itself. Never has died or anything, and I'm not THAT particular about my gas. I usually look for QT, BP, Texaco, or something of that nature. Nothing off the wall.

I looked in the consumer reports over the weekend, and I saw the projected reliability of these cars got the lowest rating... so I'm not to surprised that we're already seeing ghosts in the closet with this car. Oh well! Proll end up being my beater in a few years anyway.

I've had enough issues with my dealership already, so I'll be taking it in with a stack of TSB's and various issues.

We have a problem with this as well but it only happens when coming to a stop, the A/C fans and idle drop real low like the car is going to die. It hasn't yet though.

And now it's getting worse. The engine clunks and makes horrible noise when coming to idle after driving for an extended period of time. It stalled at least twice on me last night when coming to a stop. The dealer can't figure out what's going on.

Anyone else?

Mine has occasionally done this while sitting at lights while in Drive- the RPM's will drop to around 400, engine feels like it's going to quit. Shift into neutral, RPM's come back up and then everything is fine. It's done this 2-3 times and just turned over 10K last night. I know some SS/SC's have a similar issue; I'm told theirs is fuel-pump related.

there is a new bulletin out for this problem, take it to your dealer they have an updated calibration for your PCM.

sounds like a mas problem, i accidently unhooked mine and forgot to plug it back in and it did this problem, and without it you dont get the proper mixture of fuel, i know in my 3g eclipse i did this and after about 20 minutes of driving, i used over 4 gallons of gas due to the fact it just dumps all the fuel it can into the combustion chambers, but dont quote me on the cobalt im new to them but should see if they could change it out, and see if it helps

Mine also does this once in a while, maybe once every 200 miles, or thats the times that I have noticed. Did it much more often when I first got it. Told the dealer and they checked the ground. Hasn't done it for a while now.
1,800 and climbing.

Could just be some bad gas??

Then we all have bad gas. Now my motor seems to have a little chirp to it when it's first started. Oh so nice to have a Chevy again.....

No. What are you looking for?

Apparently I've bad gas. All the time. Every time. Every single time. We need new gas stations around here, I guess.

My Cobalt has seen gas from KS, MO, MI, IL. MO in my book has some of the best quality gas in the country based on the mpg I get if you ask me. It just doesn't have the higher octane premium fuel like further east does.

Looking for what? New car?
