sqeeking...really pissing me off

alright I'll first say i got sportlines installed maybe a month ago..the awful vibrations have stopped quite a bit. BUT the sqeeking my car makes is awful, here are the conditions:

my car..07 SS/SC

When does it happen?

-while slightly on the gas around 2-4k rpms in first and second gear
(these are usually long high pitched notes dragging out 60-100 feet or so.)
-shifting into second
(a slight chirp will sound)
-making slight turns (left or right) say on a bendy road
(these sqeeks are just like little chrips)
-heavy turning..say like in a parking lot.
(same little chirping sqeeks as the bendy roads, sometimes a bit louder)

how often?
-to often...
-it seems to subside when the car has been driven a distance, but never the less it still will sqeek here and there.

I have no idea...my best guess is it is a result of the springs? i would not assume brakes for the simple reason..my brakes make no noise or if pressed stop the awful chirping sounds.

last..think there would be a cheep simple solution to this? dw-40or brake cleaner in the area?

help please

-TJ

I have an '07 SS/SC too and been having the exact same issue. It will squeak/chirp over bumps, turning and shifting. Sometimes I think it's coming from the suspension...but other times it sounds like it's coming from inside the car. This coupled with my sunroof rattling when closed can get REALLY annoying.

I don't have any suspension or tire mods...and I get a chirping squeak when going around turns in a parking lot... sure it isn't the tires?

Guys I have this SAME problem for the most part. There are 3 or 4 distinct noises in the car when running over bumps. A lot of them sound like that they're coming from inside the car, but I don't know.

I have 2k miles on the car, they should fix this under warranty right?

being a technician in todays car world i know that Gm has had some bad front struts/upper strut mounts shipped stock from factory on the cobalts. Call dealership in which you purchased from and describe the noise, 95% of the time they will take care of it right away to keep you as a life long customer (make sure its the same place you bought car from for best service!!).

Same here. Sometimes I think it's coming from the wheels/suspension, and sometimes it sounds like it's coming from the door or the seat. But most of the time it sounds like it's coming from under the car.

Anyway, I went to my Chevy dealer yesterday to make an appointment to bring my car in for both these noises and the noises coming from the sunroof. I asked if the work would be covered under warranty...they said as long as there's no damage. If I get any charges for this, I'll raise hell. My car only has 5,500 miles on it and I've been dealing with these noises since around 3,000 miles. I scheduled the appointment for 7/26, so I'll update you later in the week with what they did.

Put your car in neutral and rev and hold the engine in the 2-4000rpm zone.......see if you can duplicate the sound sitting still. Do this with a cold engine, and your engine at temp.
Still nothing? Try clutching in and out at the same time. If you can't duplicate the noise, you have at least ruled out the engine/clutch.

As far as the inside of the car goes, I had an anoying variation of sounds aswell. It took me months to isolate it but it turned out to be the passenger side seatbelt clanking on itself and into the door(when driving solo of course). Sounds stupid but thats what it was. **** me off!

I'll be looking for your post on this. I nabbed a GM mechanic today for a 5 minute drive and he isolated my problem to the engine. My car goes in Wednesday morning.
I'm hoping that it's just a bearing on one of the pulleys.....and NOT something internal. The last thing I want is my 9000km factory sealed engine undergoing a teardown, to get at some $30 part that proves to be defective. Sure, it doesn't cost me a dime but they NEVER go back together the same.
Just to be clear: The noise my car makes (windows down/really bad) is akin to a shot wheel bearing........or............think of an old beater with a shitty power steering pump.............that squeeeeeeeeeeelllllll! (not as loud though) and add a clicking to it and there you have it. 3000RPM?
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO YOU?

I put my money on the lower control arm bushings. The added preload on them working in a lowered state, thats why Im trying to find hiem jointed LCB's witch will also help eliminate wheel hop.

OR

The brake dust shield behind the rotor is bent and touching the brake rotor.

I would definitely say the short squeaks and chirps can't be aftermarket, because I'm having the same problem and I haven't made any modifications to my car. It's 100% stock still.

However, I have not experienced any of the long, high-pitched noises you described...maybe that has to do with an aftermarket component.

Did anyone try looking at the motor mounts?? I had a similar squeek/grind and it ended up being a combination of my ingalls damper rubbing against the motor mount along with a strut and a bushing!

I had a similar issue when I removed my front wheel to install in CAI, it ended up being the backing plate behind the brake rotor. Check all those out.

I took my car into the dealer today, and wouldn't you know the squeaks stopped! On the way to dropping it off I didn't hear it once. However, I had the appointment so I still dropped the car off and told them what was going on. They test drove the car and didn't hear anything either. They also checked my steering and the suspension and said everything was in proper working order. They really couldn't tell me anything other than to bring it back again if it starts making the noise and have one of the technicians ride with me to see if they hear it.

So on the way home, I listened very carefully. I didn't hear any squeaks until I slowed down and turned into my driveway...I heard a few quick little chirps.

Maybe it's going away on it's own? I remember awhile back my Firehawk had been doing the same thing, but the squeaks only went on for a few weeks and never came back. To be quite honest, I don't want to have to keep running back and fourth to the dealer for this, only to have the noise stop when I get there. I guess I'll just deal with it.

I had a similar problem, mine was a build up of brake dust on my front pads... they serviced my pads and it went away... a week later it came back... but i found that a hard brake or 2 every now and then seems to make the noise go away, this will do for the time being until I buy some good quality after market pads.
