Strange noise while driving
Strange noise while driving
So the other day I accidentally hit a curb while driving, it was while taking a slight left turn. Anyways, for the first few days everything was fine, alignment is perfect, no shaking or anything out of the ordinary. On day 3 I was starting to get a humming noise. It sounds a bit like a bad wheel bearing would but I checked all four bearings and all were tight. Put car up on lift and ran it up to about 50 mph, the noise becomes noticeable around 20 and gets louder and faster as the speed increases. The weird thing is, it's louder in the car than it is outside of the car. I put a mechanics stethoscope on the transmission as well as the control arm and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I also rotated and re-balanced all of the tires and they check out perfect. Car runs and drives perfect but this noise is SO ANNOYING while driving. I'm about to take it to a very experienced mechanic as I'm clueless at this point. Any ideas? *Sorry for the wall of text*
I'm sorry that you're experiencing some noise concerns at the moment. You seem to have a plan of action already (visiting your mechanic) - if I can be answer any questions or be of any assistance, please let me know!

I am actually having this same issue... not sure if it's from hitting anything. I know it's not the wheels and tires because I switched them out and had the same noises. Did you ever have any updates?
Wheel bearing... By hitting the curb the ***** in the bearing dented the race causing a noise. Lift car up and hold the strut spring while spinning wheel by hand. The bad bearing will feel gritty on the spring like the spring is vibrating. Then do it to the otherside to confirm which side it is. Id say start with the one that hit the curb.
Sounds like the wheel bearing. I'm about to fix mine once it gets delivered. Sounds like riding on the rumble strips and gets louder the faster you go. From what I've researched, later model GM FWD cars have been known to go through these especially after an impact with affected side.
Well mine was a wheel bearing. At first it wouldn't make any different noise when I would turn, now when I turn to the right it gets quiet when I turn to the left it gets loud.. So it's the right side. Ordered already from mongorat
