lemme guess... you read that on the internet

oil does break down.... older oil will NOT have the lubricating abilities that new oil has. Not to mention keeping stuff like dirt and such that makes it's way into your motor over time in there. It's one of the reasons oil changes is supposed to be EVERY 3 MONTHS or 3000 miles.

Congrats on wasting natural resources & money by changing oil that often.

" Engine wear actually decreases as oil ages. This has also been
substantiated in testing conducted by Ford Motor Co. and ConocoPhillips, and reported in SAE Technical Paper 2003-01-3119. What this means
is that compulsive oil changers are actually causing more engine wear
than the people who let their engine's oil get some age on it."

It should also be noted that synthetic oil hardly breaks down at all over time. At least not in the temps experienced in our every-day cars. It has a much higher tolerance than dino oil. The main reason for changing synthetic oil is because it gets too dirty. If you have a filter than can be changed without draining the oil, you can extend the oil life even more by changing the filter only between changes.

I was using that as an example. I change my oil every 7000 miles(goes along with sceduled maintenance for my car)

I'm sure what ur saying has credit. But it seems that's more for people who change their oil everytime they park their car or something. I'm not gonna go waiting 10000 miles or so to change my oil no matter what anyone says.

I'm not too sure I want to trust facts about engine life when the companies that come up with them make money off of fixing cars and selling parts either... If you want to "age" your oil before you change it more power to you, but I have my own ASE certifacations along with 2 years of school and over 3 years as a certified technician and I know that oil does nothing but get worse(either by breaking down or getting dirty) over time under use.

That's exactly what I was saying. The guy that changes his oil every 2500 is overkill. And when you change oil, the wear metals during the first 1k are higher than when the old oil came out. That doesn't mean to let it run for 10k.

I use Mobil 1 and change it once a year with a filter change halfway through. I put less than 7k on it in a year though.

Royal Purple is the best synthetic motor oil on the market in my opinion. I managed a lube shop back in Texas for five years, and we sold it like crazy. I also got chance to see how diferent oils stood up to the high heat and humidity due to a lot of repeat business. Mobil one is good, but we got a lot of people to try Royal Purple and they would swear they could feel a power diference. The majorty of them would continue to use Royal Purple. The only oil I did not care for to much was Castrol Syntech. I am not saying it is bad, but It just seemed to be a little more dirty then the other synthetics oils after a few thousand miles.
