timing chain ate through the upper guide

wtf, seriously. I got the valve cover off and checked it all out, finally pulled off the upper guide and what do you know the chain has REALLY ate through the guide.

My question is, what in gods name would cause this? I'm taking it back to the shop on monday to yell a little, and make them fix whatever mistake they made, would like to know what messed up?

this is the upper guide obviously, you can see a pretty deep groove where the timing chain was eating away at it.

just rolled right over the plastic piece, hooked a power drill to the balancer pulley and spun it, it just hopped over again to, so something is wrong here thats out of the norm

if the head has been taken off the car someone might have forgotten the front timing chain guide bolt. not undoing that can cause you to break the guide and it becomes loose and useless.

installation issues it would appear.
so many times the guide bolts break because peeps dont use a torque wrench and dont use new bolts. better bolts help but a torque wrench is essential. good luck.
