transmission problem

So today i got in my balt to leave school and no second gear. I have an automatic 2.2 ltr LS. I decided to try and put it into first and then throw it up into second, and it kinda sputterd then bucked then the power stearing thing came on and the car died. Waited 45min to get towed to a whole in the wall chevy dealer, who cant even look at it till monday-tuesday at the earliest! So now im stuck driving around an 07 malibu.

Any ideas what could be wrong with it?!!

oh and the speedomoter wasnt working at the time either.
