Very annoying CEL problem

Okay, this problem has been going on ever since I bought my car a month ago. One day, I was driving back from eating lunch with my mom and the CEL clicked on and started having idling issues and the rpm would bounce at like 40 mph. SO I took it to a diffrent dealer than who I bought it from, Says my sensors have been put on backwards and they cut some wires. He said it would be a $500 job. I laughed at him and drove out of the parking lot. So then i took it to the orignnal dealer and told them to fix this sh**. So they took it into the shop, said noting about the sensors, but said the cold side pipe was cracked. So he reset the computer and put the pipe in. 2 weeks later I'm driving home from work and the CEL click on for no reason. But nothing happened. It just kept on going normaly. The only smilalrities is that both times it has been hotter than the depths of hell outside. Idk if it cant get a good VAC reading or what but I really want this to stop I really dont wanna call my dealership every 2 weeks when somting messes up.

It would help to know what the CEL code(s) is/are. It's very difficult to help over the internet if we don't have much to go off of. Thanks!

Yeah first thing is to get a CEL reader. You can get one as cheap as 50 bucks at sears.
Alternatively they will read them for free at any autoparts store but that is still a bitch.
My first guess is that you need to clean your MAF sensors. There's one on top of the engine and one on your cold side charge pipe. Get a can of MAF cleaner at any auto parts store and clean those suckers every few months.

He can also stop by an autoparts store, and they can use their scanner too probably.

You're thinking of the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensors. The mass airflow sensor (MAF) is in the intake pipe.

He said he maybe had a sensor backwards earlier. The only air sensor you can get backwards is the MAF, and that throws a distinct code if I remember right. The only way a MAP sensor could be backwards I'd imagine is if the dealer installed the GMS1 sensors and reversed the wiring during the rewiring process. You can turn a MAP sensor around, but it'd still read properly just the same. lol

Thats exatly what I ment the GMS1 sensors. The guy said that there were supposed to e 4 wires on the top sensor and 3 on the cold side pipe, but there were 3 wires on top and one was just hanging and there were 3 connected on the bottom with one cut off. So I have no clue what in the hell is going on. Hudiburg Toyota is supposed to have this 101 point checklist. Apparently electrical wasnt in there.

Well, being that the GMS1 kit was a specialty and low volume kind of thing, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know about it or what it was. Even many GM dealers don't know much about it or mess it up.

Here's the info on it that you can give a dealer, and they can fix it for you:

Sorry, you're right, meant to say MAP not MAF
