Angry weird sound when i reverse...

Since it's starting to get cold, occasionally when I for instance back into a parking spot or back out of one. It sounds like my brakes but its a really loud metal echo like sound its really hard to describe. I'm not reversing quickly. last night was the loudest, it ended up echoing through my entire car over my stereo at 1/2 volume. Rotors were machined maybe 3k ago, and pads are at about 80ish-%

any ideas?

Happens to me too , actually both of my SS's do/did it . It almost sounds like someone playing the violin in your back seat as you back out of the driveway. And it's always worse after you wash your car or it rains.

Mine does the same. I was going to ask the dealer about it next week.

its the rust on the peace of crap rotors being scraped off. If its cold outside condensation will promote it, or if you just washed your car AHHH

resolution: After market rotors in the rear

X2

All the 4 wheel ABS cobalts with stock pads and rotors do this.

Its just a rust coating formed by condensation, nothing to worry about.

I figured it was rust too, but why does it only make the noise in reverse?

because your rotors are used 99% of the time going forward, therefore they're shaped that way. When you go in reverse, you're going "against the grain" so to speak. It's also because 90% of the time when you're reversing, the calipers haven't completely rebounded all the way and the pads are still somewhat compressed against the rotor. So, those two factors combined=squeaky squeely rotors. Totally normal and nothing to worry about, the surface rust just needs to be removed and in doing so the rotors vibrate and harmoize.

true story^ I would get new rotors while youre at it though. replaced the oem's twice both warped from normal driving I got r1 concept premiums and they're beautiful about 20k now you can still see the non directional finish.

and I have also experienced this issue. replaced rotors and it went away. it's like a horrible harmonic vibration shakes the whole car and your spine. my rotors were not rusty but they had a nasty lip. that would do it.
