Question Paint Situation(pics)

Over the past year, my car has been slowly losing paint on the roof on the driver's side. Here are a couple pics:

Is this something that touch up will take care of, or is this going to require going to a body shop.

Yeah that's not the factory paint. Body shop is the only way you'll get that fixed.

Time to call insurance, or if you had it repaired from an accident, take it back and have it fixed under warranty.

Man, that sucks.

I bought this car 5 years ago and up until a year ago the paint started coming off, so one of the previous owners must have been in an accident and had it repainted.

What would cause something like this? Was it not sprayed right or what?

Looks like really poor surface prep from the repair. So yeah just a bad repair. That sucks.

Anybody know about how much I'm looking at to get that side of the roof done? The rest of the car is fine. Is there anything I can do to keep it from getting worse until I get the money to get it fixed?

Probably over $2000, they'll have to blend the paint and then reclear that whole side.

Are you sure? $2000 for just that driver's side arc sounds like a lot. The fenders and door don't need repainted. I know it won't be cheap, but surely it can't be that much.

Maybe at Bud & Bob's Body Shop but at a dealer that's going to do it right and make it look factory and stand by their work with a lifetime warranty it'll cost more than that.

You don't go to a dealer for body or paint work. That's what body shops are for.

If you go to the dealer to have work done on your car you like to waste money

Nope. Dealer does it right and if they don't they have to do it all over again. Good luck getting some ma and pop shop to stand by their work. Just speaking from experience.

I don't care if it looks factory perfect. I mean, come on, it's black. I'm sure most body shops aren't going to make it look like an eyesore from 5 feet away. Any reputable body shop will make it look just as good as the dealer. There's also nothing stopping a dealer from not standing by their work just as your typical body shop would given the fact that dealerships are privately owned. They can tell you to take a hike just as easy as a body shop can. I'm not going to pay $2000 for a small section of my car to be repainted. It just wouldn't be worth it. It's a used daily driver and that's what I bought it for.

Call and get quotes man. Any body shoo can do that. Its a spray and clear job. Not a crinkled body panel. I'd do it for 3-400 bucks if u were near me

there's not much you can do to keep it from getting worse man, short of protecting it with like a sheet of clear vynil. maybe a few coats of wax... but since the clear coat seems to have disappeared i'd say you are s.o.l.
