Removing swirls and other scratches
I can't stress it enough, keep moving. Use a lower speed to if you're just starting out.
I went to school at Wyotech. There way of teaching us was giving us a buffer and just doing it. I've done it once more since school, bringing my total times buffing cars to twice, and both came out with show room quality. Just do it. You're not going to fly through the clear if you keep moving.

http://www.turbowax.com/prod/buffing-pad.html
and their stuff is probably the easiest i have ever used...
i would be comfortable taking there stuff to any car in the world....
and they are amazing with customer service
edit:
their compound is what allowed that shine you see above....
^^^nice work above. real clean, love how glossy it looks
i actually opened a thread about a scratch area i have on my rear bumper and am gonna post a pic tommorrow so hopefully someone can help me out. its like a 3 x 3 area of light scratches that wax and rubbing compound dont seem to help with. its real dull looking like sumone took a brilo pad to it.
