A PC is very easy to use. Being a Meguiars person I use W8006 (polishing pad) for #83 and #7 and the W9006 (finishing pad) for #21 or NXT. With the PC set on 5 for #83 and set on 3 for #7, #21, and NXT Then you use W7006 (cutting pad) WITH a microfiber bonnet on it for removing product (not all product) but I do so many steps on the car I forget which I remove with the PC ( I watch the video each time before the detail)

on detail day I wash with Dawn dish soap
Clay it
#83
#7
NXT or #21
Then for kicks if I feel up to it #7

always:
I also use 3 wash mitts one for top half, one for bottom half, one for wheels. I also use two buckets one for soap and one for rinse.

I also wash straight up and down on the sides of the car and front to back on the top panels like the roof or hood.

Dry with a couple of Meguairs water magnet towels.

For results look at my gallery. Focus is 5 years old in the pic.

If you go with the PC I highly recommend the video. They show how to use it on a black 58Corvette with about the same amount of swirls as the OP and they all come out. Also for you guys in CA Meguiars holds workshops on this for car clubs, and I'm pretty sure it's free.

You should also wash from top to bottom. I see alot of people that start where ever and bring all their dirt from the bottom to the stop and scratch the rest of the vehicle

no offense, but those are terrible before and after pics. you dont do before pics in the worst sunlight possible, then show after at dusk with no sunlight.

any local auto parts store that sells 3m products... I.e. autozone, murrays, autovalue, etc.. you'll just have to check if your local store carrys those procucts.

and for pads i use Lake Country pads..... http://www.lakecountrymfg.com/foampads_ccs_dafoam.html
colors most often used (orange and white)

But it will also cost between $100-$130

It doesn't really save time with the PC but you get a much better result than by hand.
where can i get this dvd from? i went on theyre site and couldnt find it..

Here is a very simplified guide to get you started

Yellow pad + 39003 = very tough scratches
Orange Pad + 39003 = normal swirl / scratch marks
White Pad + 39009 = After you complete one of the previous steps
Black pad + wax = nice and shiny

also, make sure you get a backing plate from lake country if you order their pads..

Ok well, I picked up a cheap random orbit polisher/waxer from walmart along with a clay kit today. Went home, washed my hood with Meguiars Gold Class car wash soap, dried it off with a microfiber towel, clayed right half of the hood, wiped it down, used an applicator pad to apply meguiars swirl x on the same right side of the hood, worked it out for a little, wiped it down.... used meguiars tech 2.0 wax to finish off the job, applied it on the right side of the hood, let it dry, cleaned it off with a microfiber pad... here are the results, nothing GREAT but could definitely see a difference.

Left (undone) side:

Right (detailed) side:

Side by Side:

Now sprayed some water on it:

I put a couple of circles around the applicator on the polisher then put it against the hood and turned it on, didn't want to have it splatted all over the place, worked well, I need to spend a whole day detailing my baby but the damn work been cutting in my free time in the morning when it's nice out and I can't be doing this crap in the dark.

tyler your work makes that paint look like a custom paint job. most people will never see that kind of depth and color shift you can see in yours. shameless plug, quite possibly my favorite reflection shot:

rear bumper is win.

My orange peel is HORRIBLE as well.... atleast trying to get rid of the swirl marks though.

I have a 6" 4000RPM random orbit waxer/polisher, what pads do I need to get to work with swirlx, the normal applicator pad that came with it doesn't make a difference...
