Well with little knowledge of the setup and the bandwidth that is paid for this site I will take a crack at what is going on here.

First possibility - The bandwidth purchased for this site is not enough for how much it has grown over the last year. The company that sells them this space and their bandwidth may be doing throttling to keep the load down, this will keep you from connecting.

Second possibility - There is a database corruption that is being repaired. This happens all the time, especially when you have a site as open as this. You get tons of attachments, pictures, comments and then you get a corruption.

Third Possibility - There are issues with the physical server where this site resides. Which I dont beleive there is because you can ping and tracert to the machine and get resolution.

Fourth Possibility - DNS issues.

to answer the 1st one. Throttling is used to limit bandwidth load by reducing bandwidth speed not stopping it.

and to the 2nd. This is likely what is happening since well the errors everyone gets are database errors through vB.

three. this is true.

last but not least the 4th. This is possible though the down time would be very long indeed up to 24 hours in some cases if the root servers must be updated but that would mean that the root servers are having issues since I doubt this site would change dns information cus that could affect this sites high google rank for the keyword cobaltss. so while possible i doubt this would be the issue.

The errors are probably all database issues so those large threads are killing the site.

I highly doubt this site resides on it's own physical location. More than likey resides on a blade with a Virtual Server loaded. The throttling I didnt mean to use in it's dictionary sense. I just meant they may be trying to decrease their load by leaving the site unreachable for some. I am not sure if this is happening to everyone or not. If it is only happening to some and certain times of the day then that is more than likely what is going on. Either way it is all speculation. My money goes on a corrupt DB

im with you on a db issue theory.

in order to limit actual users the server must limit the concurrent connections available to the server. some systems have it set to something way low like 50 or 100 connections. this limits the users to only a specific amount of connections so if one user is viewing 4 threads at a time then he is taking up 4 connections while the pages load. BUT in order to get an error all 100 available connections to that one resource must be accessed at the same time. it's possible and happens a lot especially if a lot of users are on 56gay i mean k

Thanks for the support guy’s, I posted a thread on the front page about what’s going on.
We’ll make it better soon.

Oh and its not a bandwidth issue at all. Its the heavy load on the server. Causes the database connections to fail.
