Hey Steve what is your opinion on a loud ticking sound when you start the car?
Just recently and not often when I start the car, I head this loud ticking sound (3 ticks) the sound if I could describe it is almost like a hammer against metal.
Richie thinks its the timing chain/tensioner.

Chris - Not taking the valve cover off I am just letting the car sit right now.
Tyler - It starts as about a few seconds after turning on the car, a loud tick tick tick (only 3 ticks) then it goes away. Performance seemed normal. Just odd when you hear a loud tick as if it was a hammer hitting metal. Either way, tomorrow I am rolling with my buddy in his 350Z to work and ordering everything with the timing area (chain, LNF tensioner, guides) just get all new stuff in there.

It's the tensioner.Mine did that before it took a **** and the intake cam skipped. When you change it out,you must pull the valve cover and keep the chain from moving. The tensioner is a 1 1/4 socket.Replace it before you blow it out and end up like me,but I look as mine as a blessing because now my motor is going to have forged parts and high reving springs next week

no all aftermarket suppliers have the "revised" one.Autozone is cheaper than O rielly but only has a 1 year warranty as opposed to o rielly's lifetime.I bought my new one at Orielly. It was only 30 bucks.
I was going to order mine from the dealership using my family discount. Since this happened to you, while you are in there did you replace the guides and chain itself?
No guides and chain are in excellent shape.I actually checked the chain not too long ago and it hasn't stretched and thanks to my lovely intake cam sensor,if it does stretch it will pop a code at me lol
yeah buddy!Funny thing is I had a new one sitting in my car that I was going to install that night but it decided to go
before I had the chance, which was the night before my b-day lmao.Lifes a bitch

They're 1200 coils my man and in perfect condition. I sold them for 650+ stock stuff a year ago and they are still in good condition. Not tryin to bust your ***** Bobby, anything under 500 is a steal. You're getting a good deal
