FS: Passport 8500 X50 radar detector
I've got a used passport 8500 x50 radar detector (red LED) that i'm looking to sell. My day to day commute has been shortened therefore I really don't need this anymore. Works great, saved me many many many times, always picks up way in advance, well before you ever see the cop. Like any radar detector, it does pick up some false alarms around automatic doors, but i'd rather it go off when its not supposed to then when it should. Paid about 350 for it new, looking to get around 200 shipped. if there is any serious interest i will take some pictures and post them up. I've since lost the box it came in, and you can view the manual on escorts website. Comes with the detector, windshield suction cup mount, and cigarette lighter power chord with auto mute button. Hmm, was really considering buying this unit, although I was told that the police have radar detector 'detectors' and can bust you for it without even seeing it. *eeekk~!*
$170 fine and they take it away.
Have you ever had any problems with your radar detector being detected?

if cops see it while you are pulled over, you will almost always get a ticket for something
but legally can you get one for having it on your window...maybe

The guy I know that got fined lives in my area and his radar kept going off, and he couldnt see the cops, then they came out of no where and pulled him over then told him one of their detection devices was signaling that his car contained an illegal radar detection device.
Sounds wierd, but I didnt know cops had something like that... If I purchased one I would do my best to make it non visible in my car but their detection thing is the big thing that makes me worry.

Yes they do have radar detector detectors, however only in states that they are illegal is it an issue. Im really not sure what the laws are in Canada though where you live. If they have a radar detector detector they will find it no matter how well you hide it, they can pick up the frequency from anywhere.
Still for sale by the way, i'll keep it up for a couple more days before i forget it and just hardwire it into my car. Last chance make me an offer!
