Bump stops

How important do you think it is to cut the bump stops? I'm going to have a garage install the springs I have (sportlines) and don't think they will cut the bump stops. Can I cut them afterward? Anyone chime in please. Thanks, Jason

Thats what the manufacturers recommend, so I would do it if I were you. Look in the how-to section; there is one that shows how to do the rear springs.

I found it:https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-guide-43/rear-spring-install-bumpstop-cut-25851/

Hope that helps!

Yeah...I saw that and that's why I was wondering. Can they be cut after the springs are on?

First. please try a search. There are TONS of threads about this.

Second, your springs should include instructions that specifically tell you how much, if any, stop to cut off. The Pro-Kit for instance says NOT to cut the stops.

They have to be cut while the springs are off. You can not do it afterwards.

I apologize. I wanted opinions more than anything. I read the how to. I head some people talk about putting springs on but nothing about cutting the bump stops. The people that did cut them did it at different amounts. Should I just the bump stops out? Is that bad? If I put the BC2 kit on with 18's are the ground effects going to bottom out a lot. I guess I'm just a little confused. I could be searching forever to answer these questions. I couldn't find the detail I was looking for in any of the searching I did do. So any help answering these questions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Absolutely do NOT just remove the stops. 18" wheels mean nothing, its the tire size that's important. The BC2 kit has a low front end. You can expect to ground out on curbs no matter what suspension you have.

I guess if the springs didn't come with instructions concerning the bumpstops, my advice would be to call the company.

NO NO NO It is impossible to cut them after You would have to take all the springs off again.
