Clunking sound anyone got an idea????

My dad has a 06 ion level 2 with about 60000 miles on it and hes having some noises come up. Whenever he hits a bump there is a clucking noise from the front. Sounds like somethings loose. I thought maybe sway bar linkage but i could be wrong. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

I have the same noise, cobalts, g5's and ions are famous for their front end clunks. But if it's hitting him under his feet on the driver's side, then it's probably the bushing, I'd get it checked to make sure it isn't a strut.

Im a technician @ saturn there are four possible things that it could be #1 sway bar bushings, #2 sway bar end links, #3 lower control arm bushings, #4 leaking struts. Sounds like its either the sway bar bushings or the end links.

You appear to have a chicken stuck under the hood.

Sorry, couldn't resist that one.

Really though, could be any of the cheap ass bushings GM uses. Sway bar end links seem to be a common problem as well as control arm bushings. If you can get it on a hoist or on stands so the suspension hangs free, start grabbing stuff and wiggle. Have someone rotate the steering while it's up there, make sure it's not tie rod ends.

60k miles may not seem like a lot but these cars were designed and built as for as low a cost as possible.

Just had my sway bar end links and front struts replaced (leaking) and that got rid of a lot of the clunk
