Creaking noise

I apologize for this thread as there may be another on the same topic. I am just short on time and want to be pointed in the right direction.

I am experiencing a creaking noise and scrapping when going over speed bumps and similar style bumps on the road. I kind of notice an un-normal sound coming from the left side when I hit a pot hole with just that left tire, but it is very noticeable when going over a bump that the whole front end hits at the same time.

I'm not sure if the scrapping is from a part of the suspension or that black plastic piece hitting the road when I hit the bumps. The creaking is pissing me off also.

If it is struts, which ones are recommended? Dont need anything more performance related then whats on there stock.

Also what should I look for, or how to test the bad suspension component?

06' ss/sc 55,000 miles.

Again thank you for your help and patience for another one of these threads.

Did you start hearing this noise recently? I think it's the imfamous creaking suspension common on all cobalts, especially in the winter. My car does that when it's really cold outside. I'm not 100% certain but you might just need to lubricate the suspension.

im putting my car on a lift tomorrow hopefully. im checking everything to see if anything needs replacing. if not, lubing to see if it gets rid of my "chewing on a rubber band" squeaking sound from going over bumps

lubricate your upper strut mounts and see if that helps it. because the cobalts are notorious for creaking struts in the colder weather.

I just had this issue fixed on mine. Sway Bar End links. The symptoms are popping / creaking when going over the smallest of bumps and the largest of bumps. Basically anytime the tire changes elevation with the road surface.
