Eibach Sportlines = Crazy vibrations
Eibach Sportlines = Crazy vibrations
Ok, I read a while back that others where having this problem as well but not can't find the thread. Anyway I put the springs on Saturday and left it sit until this morning when I dropped it off for the alignment. Well I picked it up this afternoon and took it for a spin on my favorite stretch of Autobahn and a back road full of some of the greates twisties I've ever driven. It feels great and I felt more confident pushing it harder through the twisties. The thing is when I accelerate hard it vibrates and when I get up around 100+ mph the whole car shakes now.
So for anyone who has had or has this same problem, is there a way to correct it. I stopped back by the shop that aligned it and he told me that the drop wasn't big enough to affect the drive shaft/CV joint angles. He said they've dropped cars lower than that without problems before. Anyway, he's going to put it back on the machine tomorrow to check it over, but if I can't fix this I'm going back stock.
I notice a little vibration when I really get on it but nothing crazy like you describe. I feel most of the vibration through the gas pedal and a little throught the steering wheel.
Well not in the states they can't, those panty waste beeches, damn speed limits.
But here in Germany where the average speed is around 100mph they will. When I got the reflash for Stage 2, I went out with the tech and he pushed the car to 110mph. The dealer here doesn't give me crap when I bring it in for warranty or repairs, they feel the warranty is there to repair the car as long as it is in effect. Anyway I'll see what happens tomorrow and if the guy that aligned it can't figure it out, I guess i'll pull em out sell em and put the money towards coilovers.
"well I have sunroof whistling at 105mph... can we fix that?" "Sure no problem, we'll have it up by lunch!"
it takes too long to get a 2.4SS to 100mph, which is why I don't do it! lol, j/k. I dunno man, my Sportlines ride fine and no crazy vibrations. And thats saying alot considering I live at the tail end of a crazy 2 mile dirt/rock/massive hole road. I swear this road is gonna rattle every last bolt out of my car someday.
Dude thats amazing... I didn't even notice you were in germany... by autobahn i thought you meant your own little stretch of highway... not the ACTUAL autobahn. You could get your car all calibrated for 100mph travels... thats insane.

OK, took it back to the shop today. We put it up on a lift and loosened a few of the bolts holding the suspension together to see if something was binding. I'm not sure what, but something popped(scared the **** outa me) so we tightened everything back up, realigned it and I took it out for a drive. Little if any vibration now, I took it to 130mph on the autobahn and it rides smooth and handles great.
When you say a few of the bolts are you talking about the lower strut bolts and the nuts on the sway bar links?? I get slight vibes around 15-20 MPH but they never come back at speeds greater than that (tested to 120 MPH on local Ohio "autobahn"). May or may not be my problem.
Also, a wise man pointed out in the original Eibach vibe thread that the powertrain mounts in the SS/SC really only control motion well in one direction, fore/aft in the car. You can prove this to yourself by standing in front of the engine, try and rock it fore/aft in the car, not gonna move much. Now try moving it side to side, you can almost do it with one finger. With Sportlines at low speed you can now feel more of the powertrains side to side vibes as you get going.
One of these days I'm gonna try solid poly trans mounts to see what that does. I'll probably still have vibes but better throttle response.
Oh yeah, who cares about fuel economy. If you're worried about that go buy a Corolla and be happy.
Drive fast but be safe...I know folks in Germany in general have respect for speed and a more disciplined approach to driving than most of the folks running around the states.

Mine thank god have all but gone away. I feel the vibes from the poly mounts now more than from lowering it.
